Way of the Zen Archer (5e Subclass)

The Monastic Tradition of the Zen Archer focuses much more on fighting with ranged weapons- particularly with bows. They focus their spiritual energy into the pull of the bowstrings, unleashing a powerful shot of spiritual energy with the release of their arrows.

A Vanara Zen Archer.

Zen Archery

Upon following this Monastic Tradition at level 3, you gain proficiency in Longbows, and along with Shortbows are considered monk weapons to you. You also gain the Close Quarters Archery Fighting Style. Critical hits made with a ranged monk weapon attack restore 1 ki point, up to your total ki point maximum. If you have the Sharpshooter feat you can reduce the -5 attack penalty to -3 instead so long as you are wielding a shortbow or longbow.

  • .Close Quarters Archery. You are trained in making ranged attacks at close quarters. When making a ranged attack while you are within 5 feet of a hostile creature, you do not have disadvantage on the attack roll. Finally, you have a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls on ranged attacks.

Martial Arts

When you use the Attack action with an Unarmed Strike or a monk weapon on your turn, you can choose to make one ranged attack instead of an unarmed strike as a Bonus Action. In addition, whenever you are wielding a longbow or shortbow as your primary weapon, you can always use your Bonus Action to make one ranged attack with the longbow or shortbow as a Bonus Action.

Flurry of Arrows

Immediately after you take the Attack action on Your Turn, you can spend 1 ki point to make two ranged attacks as a Bonus Action.

Stunning Shot

Starting at 5th level, you can imbue your arrows with ki to land debilitating blows on an opponent's body. When you hit another creature with a ranged weapon attack you can spend 1 ki point to attempt a stunning strike. The target must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or be stunned until the end of your next turn.

Ki-Empowered Archery

At level 5, when making a ranged attack, you may spend 1 ki point to add one of the following effects. The choosen effect last until the beginning of your next turn.

  • Increase the range of a ranged weapon attack by a distance equal to 25 feet x your Wisdom Modifier (min. 25 feet).
  • Increase the attack and damage roll by half of your Wisdom modifier rounded up (min. 1).
  • Force a creature of one size larger, same size or one size smaller to make a Str save against your ki save DC. If the creature fails against this save, the target is knocked prone or pushed back 15 ft (your choice).

Volley

At level 11, you may spend 2 ki points to use your action to make a ranged attack against any number of creatures within a 30 foot cone in front of you. You must make a separate attack roll for each creature within reach.

Zen Bowmaster

At level 17, you can increase the effectiveness of your selected range weapon. By spending 2 ki points you may increase the number of damage dice rolled for your selected ranged weapon (e.g. Longbow goes from 1d8 to 2d8). You may spend an additional 2 ki points to increase the number of damage dice further to a maximum of 3 extra damage dice at a total of 6 ki points spent. You add your damage modifier to the sum of the total damage dice, not to each individual die rolled.

gollark: That seems vaguely defined and may also imply grammar rules still, if significantly weaker ones than usual.
gollark: Thus, is an English sentence valid Lojban because the speakers understand it too?
gollark: I'd expect that a large fraction of Lojban speakers also speak English, though.
gollark: Interesting.
gollark: Understood by a majority of people who identify themselves as "English speakers"?
