Monk Subclass

Although they may find themselves exceptionally quick, a monk must learn restraint in order to reach perfection.

Monks of the Patient Blade seek the perfect strike, becoming one with their blade, they measure twice and cut once -- or seemingly so, as they wait to slice an opponent to pieces in one fell swoop. Otherwise aloof and defensive, everything can turn around in one short moment for any opposition to a Patient Blade Monk. Replacing hand-to-hand blows with cleaner strikes from a weapon, they are able to provide aid to allies' defense through their Flow State while regenerating Ki and looking for the perfect strike.

Flow State

Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd Level, you can manipulate your Ki to make your weapon an extension of yourself. At the end of any turn that you do not attack, gain temporary health equal to your current Ki -- this is Flow. The maximum amount of Flow held at a time is your maximum Ki.

When making an attack with your melee Monk weapon, you bet your flow on your successful attack for additional damage. On a missed attack, the Flow is lost, but on a success deal additional force damage equal to your current flow.


Blade and Body

When you reach the 6th level, you have learned to treat your blade as an extension of yourself. Unarmed Strikes are replaced with melee Monk weapon attacks, and gain +2 to hit. The damage from your monk weapon strikes is at a minimum equal to your martial arts die, and count as magical for the purpose of overcoming Resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage.

Ki Regeneration: Sheathing your blade also offers an opportunity to reflect. On your turn, if you are not subject to any negative effects, you can use your action and bonus action to regain Ki equal to half your proficiency (rounded down).


Blade and Soul

Upon reaching the 11th level, you have determined that you are able to protect others with your Flow, and unleash your Ki in a finisher!

Flow Transfer: You gain the ability to touch an ally and transfer your Flow shield onto them as a bonus action, giving them temporary hit points equal to your flow. You can separately recharge your flow shield. You can transfer your flow up to two times per long rest.

Perfect Slice Finisher: You also gain the ability to expend all Ki in an attempt in an action at a perfect set of lightning-fast slices. You can make sequential attacks equal to Ki expended until you miss an attack roll. If you successfully kill a target or they are able to escape after at least one attack of your Perfect Slice Combo, you regain half the Ki expended - if you miss an attack, you lose all Ki.

Bladework Therapy

At the 17th level, you are consistent in your ability to act perfectly, and treat it as nothing unique. You gain +2 to your proficiency bonus. Additionally, you gain the opportunity to make a critical strike on an 19 or 20. When using your flow as an attack modifier, heal equal to the flow damage.
