Way of the Bladed Fist (5e Subclass)
Way of the Bladed Fist
A tank-focused monastic tradition for the Monk class.
Advanced Weapon Training
When you choose this Monastic Tradition at 3rd level, you gain proficiency in martial weapons which also count as monk weapons for you, though you must still follow the heavy and two-handed restriction.
Additionally, when you deal damage with an unarmed strike, you may choose to have the attack deal bludgeoning, piercing, or slashing damage.
Sense of Metal
Starting at 3rd level, you can sense the presence of nearby metals. You have advantage on any check that involves finding something that is made or wears metal.
Additionally, you gain proficiency in Tinkers tools and Smithing tools.
Echo of Steel
Starting at 6th level, you gain the ability to deflect enemy attacks and send painful vibrations back through their weapons. When you are hit by a melee weapon attack, you may use your reaction to spend 1 ki point and reduce the damage by 1d10 + your Dexterity modifier + your monk level. If you reduce the damage to 0, the creature takes thunder damage equal to the amount of leftover damage reduction.
You may spend 2 ki points to increase the die to 2d10, or 5 ki points to increase it to 3d10.
Body of Iron
At 11th level, your affinity with the metal used the make weaponry gives your skin a metallic toughness, and you strikes an unnatural speed and strength. Your Dexterity, Strength, and Constitution scores and maximums each increase by 2.
Additionally, you may spend 2 ki points to cast the barkskin spell, or 4 ki points to cast the stoneskin spell.
Ironclad Wrath
By 17th level, your mastery over iron and steel has reached a point where you can momentarily meld with your weapon, transforming you into a juggernaut of metal. As a bonus action, you may spend all of your remaining ki points to gain the following benefits for an amount of rounds equal to half the number of ki points spent, rounded down. During Ironclad Wrath, you gain these benefits:
- You may use your Echo of Steel ability without expending a reaction, and as if you had 2 ki points without expending any.
- You gain resistance to all damage except that of magical piercing, slashing, or bludgeoning damage.
- All of your melee weapon or unarmed attacks deal an additional amount of damage equal to 1d4 + ½ your monk level (rounded down).
Notes
Echo of Steel - If a creature were to deal 6 damage to a level 7 Monk with a Dexterity score of 19 [+4], and the monk used this ability and rolled a 4, the monk would take no damage and the attacking creature would take 9 thunder damage.
Body of Iron’s additional ability can also be cast on a willing creature.
