This page is of questionable balance. Reason: This race is strangely centered almost entirely around reactions, and feels more like a class in some areas than a race. Advantage should never be across an entire ability. See 5e Race Design Guide.

Water Mole (5e Race)

Physical Description

A Water Mole witchdoctor

Water Moles, as they like to refer to themselves as, are large, anthropomorphic, platypi and as such carry the traits one would have, duck-bill, beaver tail, mole like fur and clawed fins. The one feature they don't have in common with normal platypi, is that they don't have the venomous ankle spur, why this may be may be because of their intelligence and more upright position which would prevent them from effectively using it. aside from the platypus appearance, they typically wear grass skirts and feather headdresses, warriors such as Witchdoctors (their warlocks) have three large feathers on the front of the headband whilst spearman and slingman typically have several smaller feather on theirs. Usually based on their position of class, (witchdoctor, spearman, or slingman) they will have a different amount of markings on their black beaks, usually this marking being in a sorta of white paint. That is the base description of the tribe known as Nui, the second tribe, Waponi are more or less the same but instead gray and white instead of brown and white. Females are much thinner than males as well as taller, and wear longer skirts and when outside their villages wearing

History

It was once believed that Water Moles were platypi that drank an awakening potion however recent scholars have debunked this, now proving that Water Moles came around the same time as most other races, though how they came about is unknown as they describe the ancestors saying they came around when a bright flash of light occurred and the next thing the ancestors knew they were on the Material Plane. It is also established that at some point, the Water Moles diverged into two tribes, the more peaceful and trading Nui, whilst the Waponi are more violent.

Society

This will describe the society on both parts of Nui and Waponi.

The Nui: The Nui, unlike their more violent counterparts, prefer to trade with others, paddling along shores or setting up shops to trade with other folks from their homes with their unique baubles the person may carry. In return they typically trade, refreshing herbs, fish, or special bones. They are known to be more curious than the more violent Waponi, and harbor a sort of hatred for them. The Nui are known to worship their ancestors instead of gods, meaning cleric Nui Water Mole typically pray to those before them, instead of gods.

The Waponi: The Waponi will fight literally anyone, or anything that enters their territory, due to this they are not very conversational, and really no one likes the. The Nui despise them most likely for abandoning their ancestors for worshipping a fire god (if the player plays a waponi they choose one fire based god).Because they turned their back on their ancestors, this may have fueled their blood rivalry with the Nui, which is just as intense as their hatred to the outside world.

When speaking in Common they are known to refer to themselves in the third person.

The naming convention is different for both tribes though they typically for Nui name them after some version of the ancestors name whilst the Waponi typically name them after deities of or based around fire.

gollark: I mean `map` as in the array operation, not the data structure.
gollark: That is not what I mean by "map".
gollark: Or you can use a library like Ramda to provide it.
gollark: `array.map`.
gollark: You shouldn't have `map`...?
