Void Weaver (3.5e Class)
Void Weaver
Void Weavers are a rare breed. They overwhelm enemies with damage over time abilities, mind altering spells, and their powerful cloaker minion . They have the power of stealth on their side as they become more and more like one with the darkness of the void they so relentlessly seek to use at their disposal. This power is usually sought after for selfish personal reasons due to its nature of being so destructive, often times even alluring evil individuals to gain its power that enjoy watching their victims die a slow and painful death. On the other hand a small amount seek this power out of desperation to defend from greater evils. On very rare occasions an individual can experience a moment of such intense negative energy in their life that the energy of the Negative Energy Plane reaches out to them directly offering its power.
Making a Void Weaver
The Void Weaver is a relatively durable caster that uses his damage over time abilities, mind altering spells, and his powerful and loyal Cloaker minion to overwhelm his enemies. He draws his power directly from the negative energy plane, and this increases the more he learns to manipulate it. There isn't a large variety on what all a Void Weaver can or has the desire to do.
Abilities: Intelligence is the most important stat as it increases the effectiveness of all the Void Weaver's abilities and spells. Constitution is also of high priority due to needing to outlast opponents. Dexterity is important due to the Void Weaver wearing no armor, using ranged touch attacks, and needing the initiative due to how many actions needed to make to be fully effective. Wisdom affects your Minion Control, Charisma and Strength is of minimal use.
Races: Humans and Drow make up the majority of Void Weavers. Elves generally cannot handle the envelopment of negative energy. Halflings are too interested in more amusing than dark and serious things. The occasional gnome or Half-elf finds interest in the power of the void, and a very small amount of dwarves have been known to delve into this power out of desperation.
Alignment: Any, but it takes a special and devoted Void Weaver to be able to remain good while being enveloped with negative energy.

Playing a Void Weaver
Religion: Void Weavers tend to have little interest in religion due to all effort is all ready wrapped up in their study of the knowledge of the void, but some have been known to prefer Wee Jas, or for the more sinister, Nerull.
Other Classes: Void Weavers often keep to themselves. Wizards can usually respect the dedication needed to gain this power. Non-Evil Clerics and Paladins generally distrust Void Weavers due to their obsession with negative energy. Barbarian's and Fighter's tend to be leary about Void Weavers due to their mind altering abilities.
Combat: The Void Weaver focuses on dealing damage over time to his opponents and uses mind altering effects to control the battle. His role is a solid consistent damage dealer with enough utility to help keep the group from getting overwhelmed, especially when focusing on a single powerful enemy to weaken. They do have the ability to influence a group of weaker enemies with negative effects to buy time.
Advancement: It is quite difficult for a Void Weaver to wish to differ from his primary path and gain anything worthwhile at the cost of furthering his abilities, and Multiclassing will not be worth it without a super specific purpose.
Void Weaver in the World
Daily Life: The typical Void Weaver spends his time and effort on improving his abilities for the power to be used on whatever purpose he has sought it for. He is usually not so interested in what he sees as menial things, such as being socially caring.
Organizations: It is extremely rare to see more than a single Void Weaver due to the nature of them being obsessed with the individual path they choose to follow. When this does occur though, they tend to cautiously attempt to gain what knowledge of the void that they can from one another.
NPC Reactions: Most common folk or good warriors will be put off by the nature of the Void Weaver, but some with darker intent may try to sway them to be used as a tool for their nefarious purposes.
Void Weaver Lore
Characters with ranks in Knowledge Planes can research Void Weavers to learn more about them. When a character makes a skill check, read or paraphrase the following, including information from lower DCs.
DC | Result |
---|---|
5 | Void Weavers are dedicated to negative energy. |
10 | Void Weavers Focus on plagues of negative energy, with poison to a lesser degree, and mind altering effects to cripple their enemies. |
15 | A Void Weaver has a loyal minion, which he can even wear as a cloak for protection and stealth, that is usually only seen by ones that lives are ending very soon. |
20 | Void Weavers draw their power directly from the negative energy plane. They almost always to have a sole purpose for seeking such power, or find themselves become such a way due to the all consuming nature of the obsession with the void. |
Void Weavers in the Game
A Void Weaver is a rare sight for nearly everyone. They tend to be a quiet and focused breed with a sole or very specific purpose(s). Very few people or creatures even realize that they are dealing with a void Weaver unless they have become companions with one. A Void Weaver's background can vary greatly, but they all tend to share strong similarities with their backgrounds that involve great trauma, or strong will to inflict great suffering on others.
