New Message of Interest Template

What do you think of the new template? If you remove the nested Template:MoI-Row the table gets hidden like so:

So it only shows up if there are messages. Sledged 11:29, 15 December 2006 (MST)

It is amazing. Great idea, and I have already implemented it at a couple of locations. Thanks for this idea. Also, please see Template talk:Messages of Interest#How to use for something I said about it... Anyway, great idea, much better than the current system. --Green Dragon 02:25, 16 December 2006 (MST)

Wikimedia Donations

I see Wikimedia is doing their year end donation drive. How would you feel in regards to something on the front page directing users to their donation site? --Xenophon 06:33, 18 December 2006 (MST)

Hm... I don't really know... I'm not affiliated/related to the site, etc. I don't really see why I should... Maybe D&D Wiki's own fundrasing campaign (jk - Also that is the page that Blue Dragon has edited the most (I think he wants a free server from Donations that would help Tundra (the current server) running D&D Wiki :) ))... What would you recommend? --Green Dragon 16:07, 18 December 2006 (MST)
I understand that we are a smaller user base and definitely don't have the pool of resources to draw from that Wikimedia does. It does seem reasonable that if anyone has just a bit of money to donate they should allocate that money to the more needy source. Wikimedia provides the core of this site. Any way you look at it we all owe something back. I'm not saying we should all pour money into or else we're stealing. That's the beauty of the GPL is that anyone, even those lacking ANY funds, can use it. It might just be my opinion, but I feel that by virtue of you using MediaWiki associates you in a way with Wikimedia. In writing this another thought came to mind in regards to having our own drive locally. We can solicit donations, pay for some server costs and then pass up something as D&D Wiki to Wikimedia. I feel that contributing as a group speaks more about us than if the same amount was contributed individually. MediaWiki is what the web was meant to be. It gives the voice to the people, creating a cable public access station as if it had the resources of the entire world. I apologize for the length of this. This is really a culmination of my thoughts, finally consolidated. I really am much more cynical than I seem idealist. I find this whole thing fascinating and exciting but at the same time I worry for its future, not just monetarily. Yes, I am being an evangelist but it is for something once in my life I totally understand and feel some real passion about... Besides D&D. --Xenophon 15:42, 19 December 2006 (MST)
I agree with you. I like the idea of having out own drive, then donating half to MediaWiki. Thanks for the idea, and I will get Blue Dragon to work on it soon. Thanks so much for this idea, and possibly Blue Dragon can get another server for this site, and this site can say "Thank you" to MediaWiki... --Green Dragon 15:47, 19 December 2006 (MST)
We did not get the donation drive out in time for help with the wikimedia drive, but still, if we more than enough to buy more RAM we will give the rest to wikimedia. So, donate if you would like (I know you may have been put off my Talk:Main Page, but please don't listen to that; Blue Dragon just got carried away... Please forgive and forget, don't let Blue Dragon give you problems...) --Green Dragon 10:54, 29 December 2006 (MST)

Feedback + FR Wiki

I recently came across this wiki by accident but I wanted to say it is excellent, if underpopulated, and I think its relative lack of promotion or awareness is to blame. I am an editor at Forgotten Realms wiki and although our wikis do not necessarily cross paths (FR-wiki is a glorified reference to FR source material), there are opportunities to interact, so I thought I would link to D&D Wiki articles where they exist, instead of other places, and even contribute here where necessary. Fw190a8 19:58, 18 December 2006 (MST)

A couple things. First off, my wiki is not underpopulated (compare this to this)... Anyway, not trying to get off to a bad start (I have just had a problem with a different "merger" a while back). So, what exactly are you proposing? So we understand each others wikis better, I have started with a comparison. First off, I like that your(?) Wiki has been around for a while, I will say quite a bit longer than mine (Yours founded on 11 October 2005, mine on February 4th 2006). Also, the edits to your wiki are still coming, even though it is not very popular (only 3,657 page views since October 11 2005, whereas mine has 616,691 page views since February 4th 2006). Also, you have quite the user-base, whereas since D&D Wiki is so new it is lacking that (D&D Wiki has under 200 users, you have a very large amount (e.g. Green Dragon is already taken)). I would say our wikis are about the same (not content wise, but statistically speaking...). So, again, what exactly would you like to happen? --Green Dragon 23:49, 18 December 2006 (MST)
:) We may have a small user-base, but we are proud, noble, dedicated folk... :) --EldritchNumen 04:05, 19 December 2006 (MST)
Agreed. --Green Dragon 14:55, 19 December 2006 (MST)

New Archives Template

What do you think of the new archives template using the loop functions extension Blue Dragon installed? There's a demo of it in my talk page.

The first paramter n specifies how many archive pages there are. The rest of the parameters (label1, label2, label3, etc...) specify the link text. Sledged 13:40, 19 December 2006 (MST)

I think I might be getting carried away... Sledged 13:41, 19 December 2006 (MST)
I like it... Would you mind implementing it where archives are? I am asking you because I have yet to take the time to fully understand it... --Green Dragon 14:52, 19 December 2006 (MST)

New SRD Landing Page is Up

I plopped the new SRD landing page in this morning. Thanks a zillion. The new page looks great. --Dmilewski 07:46, 20 December 2006 (MST)

Agreed, it is much better than the old SRD page. Good job, and thanks for doing that. --Green Dragon 15:40, 20 December 2006 (MST)

RE:Welcome to D&D Wiki

Green Dragon wrote:

Hello LoneLobo, and welcome to D&D Wiki! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like D&D Wiki and decide to stay. I am the owner of the site, and if you have a question feel free to ask me, however when contacting anyone on D&D Wiki through talk pages please sign your name using four tildes (LoneLobo 00:29, 21 December 2006 (MST)); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Also, if you want to help D&D Wiki but just don't know how drop me a note and I'll see what I can do. However, when dropping me a note please tell me how much time you would like to spend working, how well you know the Wiki Format, and how well you know D&D. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a D&D Wikian! If you need help ask me on my talk page, or just right here. Again, welcome! --Green Dragon 23:31, 20 December 2006 (MST)

Green Dragon, Thank you for your warm welcome. The D&D Wiki is a great resource, you should definintely be proud of the accomplishment. I only found the site yesterday, and I still haven't been able to look through most of the great content. I know the Wiki format fairly well, but on other Wikis, I've never created articles from scratch, though I have editted many. D&D has been my passion for nearly ten years, and in the past few years I've mostly DM'd campaigns, with the exception of RPGA events, although I have been working on becoming GM certified with the RPGA. I hope I'll be able to contribute positively to the D&D Wiki, though it seems a lot of information has already been covered. I'm really interested in your Wikiworld Campaign Setting project, and as soon as I finish reading all of the source material, I think I've got a pretty decent idea to help the project along; though I'd like to get an idea for how many people are already actively using the project's campaign setting in games they're running. Again, thank you for your welcome. LoneLobo 00:29, 21 December 2006 (MST)
No problem, my pleasure. Anyway, your contributions to the wikiworld have been very good so far. I dont think you are changing the idea of it, it only looks better than before. About the "Uses": I am sure quite a bit of people are using it, however no one has said such a thing. People never say if they use things from this site, but I know people are because D&D Wiki just keeps gettimg more and more visitors.... Glad you like the site so much and Merry Christmas. I look forward to your contributions. --Green Dragon 08:39, 21 December 2006 (MST)

Thanks for the Help

Well it's almost Christmas again and social matters tend to take control for a few days and I just wanted to say Thank you for the warm welcome and the help! DandDwiki is definitely the greatest source for game material I have found and I already know I'll use a lot of it in the coming year. So the only thing that's left is to say: Merry Christmas and a happy new year!, Keep up the good work! --Ymir 01:28, 21 December 2006 (MST)

Merry Christmas to you as well, and I wish you a happy new year. Thanks for putting up all you things so far, and updating the feats. Your CS is beginging to look very good. Merry Christmas as well. --Green Dragon 08:39, 21 December 2006 (MST)

Help Please!

I noticed how the NPC page got changed around and got reorganized. Nice job on it. I was planning on contributing some new NPC's tonight but I am having trouble editing in order to put in new entries. Little help please? --rowsdower44 18:18, 23 December 2006 (MST)

Adding NPC's is easier than before. Go to Add a New DnD NPC and follow the discussion. The new CR's are all dynamic (using DPL's) so just make sure your new NPC is part of Category:DnD, Category:User, Category:NPC, and Category:CR----your CR here---. This will make your NPC show on the correct CR page when you have saved your NPC. I hope you like this method, and I am glad it looks better. --Green Dragon 17:35, 23 December 2006 (MST)

I don't know if this problem is exclusive to me, but I now have a little bar under my Navigation box that says "Google Custom Search", which would not be a problem, save for the fact that the 'Search' button extends into whatever text I am reading. Along the same lines, the search and Toolbox sections have been shunted to the bottom, and shrunk down to 5pt font. Am I simply the owner of a F***ed up machine? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Cypresslyshra (talk • contribs) 17:21, 23 December 2006 (MST). Please sign your posts.

Not at all... Blue Dragon wanted to add Google search to D&D Wiki, then stopped adding it for the day telling me "It wont show up on anyones computer!" So, I believed him, seeing that it never showed up on my PC. Now, however, it appears that it has shown up on other computers... Thanks for bringing this up to me and I will tell Blue Dragon about this problem later (I cannot contact him for a bit). Sorry for this problem, and it will be fixed later. --Green Dragon 17:40, 23 December 2006 (MST)
Don't worry yourself too much with it, it's just a touch of a nusance more than a crippling error.--Cypresslyshra 17:48, 23 December 2006 (MST)
That makes me feel better... I thought this was a major problem, one that made it so it was very hard to see what is happening on a certain page. --Green Dragon 17:50, 23 December 2006 (MST)

MSRD

Yes, I am posting the MSRD. It's my "wife's away" project. This time, I get to apply all my lessons learned from the SRD. My plan is to post the basic conversions then let others organize it from there. Whether someone else actually picks that up may or may not happens. (I keep telling myself that I will stop fiddling with it. Yeah, right. But it will be secondary unless the MSRD keeps impressing me. Dang they did a good design job on that game.)

Merry new year. --Dmilewski 04:35, 1 January 2007 (MST)

Thanks, Merry New Year to you as well, even though it is a little late. Anyway, I have to agree D20M is like the better version of D&D, all the problems are worked out (makes one wonder what 4e will be like...). Also, the MSRD is looking very good, and it shows that you have already done this :). Anyway, I hope you finish this before your wife gets back and makes you quit adding the MSRD (quit? Well...). It's looking good. --Green Dragon 23:12, 2 January 2007 (MST)
The wife is VERY supportive of my wiki work. Having done all that organizing and work on the SRD, putting this thing in was a breeze. It's also far smaller than the SRD. The merging of materials is going quite quickly. I also have ideas for possible improvements. I should be able to mine Wikipedia for images of modern equipment. --Dmilewski 09:29, 10 January 2007 (MST)
I like the images that you have added so far, they are relevant and good. Also, thanks so much for adding the MSRD, it was needed for quite some tim. Also, another barnstar is coming your way when your done :). Thanks. --Green Dragon 14:45, 10 January 2007 (MST)

the poladar dude

hey thanks a bunch for ur help i could really use it because i really want to make a cool race people can use in D &D but i know almost nothing about D & D so i just want to no if there are turns in D & D cause if their are then my rush ability will work great Rush: ability for any poladar to travel 30 feet instead of 22 for 3 turns (can use twice a day) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.214.70.113 (talk • contribs) 00:06, 3 January 2007 (MST). Please sign your posts.

First off, please post this on the Poladar discussion (here), then we can look at it and evaluate it. Thanks for your understanding, but user-pages are not the place to post information that is intended only for a certain race. Also, FYI, you should get a user-account as then the creations will be under your name forever and I can post messages on your user-talk alerting you of changes that may interest you. --Green Dragon 23:10, 2 January 2007 (MST)

SVG Files

Is it possible to upload SVG files, and have wiki automatically convert it on the fly to png? If so how do I do this, when I tried to upload an SVG it said it was not a recommended format, I did not see a way to force it to go. I noticed in the uploaded files area you have a couple that are .svg.png.

Anyway, thanks for the greet, I will try to contribute a little bit when I can. --StarStrike 23:22, 2 January 2007 (MST)

You cannot have it automatically change it to a .png. Just override the message and upload it anyway, making sure to convert the file to .png beforehand. I hope this is not to much of an inconvenience, and if it is that much of an inconvenience I can have user:Blue Dragon program an extension that does what you are asking for. Would you like an extension added that does this, or would you prefer to just change the file format outside of D&D Wiki? --Green Dragon 23:45, 2 January 2007 (MST)
That is fine, I can convert it beforehand, I thought it might of been a bit easier for other users to edit an SVG as opposed to a PNG or other similar format. --StarStrike 07:12, 3 January 2007 (MST)
Even though that may be true, it is very hard to get around some of the limitations to MediaWiki. Sorry that it is not possible to convert files on the site. --Green Dragon 14:35, 3 January 2007 (MST)

Wikifiying old spells

I still have in my possession an old ADnD spell book, which I occasionally look at for reference. It would be plagurism to post them as my own, but some of them are really good wizard spells. Where would they go? --Cypresslyshra 17:51, 3 January 2007 (MST)

Sadly, you cannot post them on D&D Wiki, as they are not released under the OGL (Open Gaming License). For something to be allowed to be distributed that was made by a company it has be released under the OGL. The only reason the SRD is allowed to be here is because the SRD is released under the OGL. Old spells are not allowed just like classes from WotC 3.5e books are not allowed. Sorry, but laws are laws and I don't want D&D Wiki violating copyright problems. --Green Dragon 18:20, 3 January 2007 (MST)
Quite alright, that's why I asked first.--Cypresslyshra 18:24, 3 January 2007 (MST)
BTW, thanks for asking first... It's bad when a user (this has happened before) just posts copyrighted material... Thanks for asking. --Green Dragon 18:26, 3 January 2007 (MST)
*Whistles innocently* --Cypresslyshra 18:30, 3 January 2007 (MST)
Was that really you? I could not place my finger on who did it before, I just remember it happened.... Oh well, no worries. --Green Dragon 18:31, 3 January 2007 (MST)
Just the Grue was mine. And I think I asked for that one to be removed.--Cypresslyshra 18:33, 3 January 2007 (MST)
Oh, so the class that was posted on D&D Wiki from the PHB II was not you... I know about the Grue, but that was not really that bad. Spending the time to directly copy a class from the PHB II, then having it deleted right after it is posted on D&D Wiki is bad. I felt bad for the IP that did that, but copyrights are copyrights... The Grue was not bad. --Green Dragon 18:37, 3 January 2007 (MST)
You post an article about how to convert old spells. My question is could you get away with posting only the parts of the spell have to be changed to fit d20, like an update booklet. It wouldn't be the whole spell, so a reader would still have to have the reference source on hand for it to be usable. Sledged 10:25, 4 January 2007 (MST)

The Illandians

I have a tribe of humans, who played a great role in previous campaigns. I was wondering if there was a place to put information on the tribe and their village? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Cypresslyshra (talk • contribs) 22:08, 4 January 2007 (MST). Please sign your posts.

The best place would be DnD Campaign Settings, if you modify it a bit. You would have to more describe their location, and not just the tribe, to make it fit as a Campaign Setting. However, this would be the best place. --Green Dragon 22:24, 4 January 2007 (MST)
I shall do that then. --Cypresslyshra 22:25, 4 January 2007 (MST)
Good. I look forward to seeing these "Illandians"... --Green Dragon 22:29, 4 January 2007 (MST)
Done. The Illandian Desert (DnD Campaign Setting)--Cypresslyshra 11:10, 5 January 2007 (MST)
Amendum: I just found the information on specific tribemen, I'll be adding those shortly
Okay. --Green Dragon 15:59, 5 January 2007 (MST)

SRD Spells

I was dregging through the spell section, and found it was less than useful if you were looking spells for a specific level.

I would be willing to orgainize the spells into level catagories, if I could find out how to do so.--Cypresslyshra 12:51, 5 January 2007 (MST) Amdendum: Scratch that, just found the Class-level list. Delete this message.

Glad you found it. --Green Dragon 14:47, 5 January 2007 (MST)
Spells by level is a true categorization nightmare, especially as they shift about levels by class.--Dmilewski 09:15, 10 January 2007 (MST)
Agreed, that is why I am not sure of a good way to categorize spells with dlpc's and have them work with the SRD's categories. Spells are a very hard dilemma. --Green Dragon 14:48, 10 January 2007 (MST)
Well, this may be the stupidest thing I ever offer to do, but if you guys want, I could give you a hand with organizing them. I know we already have class-level-spell lists, but perhaps we should just place those at the top, so that people can find them easily?--Cypresslyshra 22:27, 10 January 2007 (MST)
Go for it. --Green Dragon 21:13, 20 January 2007 (MST)
Problem. Finally got around to it, but found that the page that I'm attempting to add the links to the Class Spell lists was protected by the OGL. Curiouser and curiouserer--Cypresslyshra 21:08, 29 January 2007 (MST)
I am a little confused, could you please re-explain it? What page are you trying to add spells to again? If the page is SRD no DnD spells should be added. --Green Dragon 21:56, 29 January 2007 (MST)
The question I originally had was if I could place the links to Class Spells at the begining of the SRD spell page, so that there would be links to Bard, Ranger, Druid, Wizard, and Cleric spell list at the top. We already have the lists, but they're all mixed in.--Cypresslyshra 22:01, 29 January 2007 (MST)
Thats not possible because of the OGL and how the SRD works. Sorry. --Green Dragon 22:06, 29 January 2007 (MST)
Ok, as long as that's clear. I was wondering.--Cypresslyshra 22:12, 29 January 2007 (MST)
No problem... I wish their was not such a large gap between the SRD and the DnD material as well. Oh well, nothing I can do about it. --Green Dragon 22:14, 29 January 2007 (MST)

Ghost monk

I'm probably bringing this to the wrong person, but I was wondering if you could possibly give me a hand.

I entered in an old prestige class, the ghost monk, from old documentation. I'm fairly certain I got them right, but I'm worried that some of the things that make the class workable in the past make it overpowered now. --Cypresslyshra 22:43, 10 January 2007 (MST) Amendum: If this is in the wrong place, feel free to delete it from your talk page.

What are you asking exactly...? I am a little confused... --Green Dragon 22:53, 10 January 2007 (MST)
I was asking if you would rate the balance, but right now it seems I need some caffine. My mind is fuzzing out.--Cypresslyshra 22:57, 10 January 2007 (MST)
Amendum: Sorry bout the confusion, I wasn't entirely cognizant.
Can do. I will also ask a couple other people to rate it as well so the rating is more correct. This is no problem. --Green Dragon 23:08, 10 January 2007 (MST)
I'm just not usually entirely happy with asking people to do work, but thank you Sooo much.--Cypresslyshra 23:11, 10 January 2007 (MST)
No problem, I don't mind helping people on D&D Wiki at all. --Green Dragon 23:22, 10 January 2007 (MST)

hello, I'm back again and just read your message about the pictures in my CS, and indeed most where from the art galleries from WotC, so to make sure you and DanDwiki are not getting into trouble I immediately removed all images (except the cosmology, I made that in paint myself) sorry if I caused any inconvenience. Ymir 02:18, 11 January 2007 (MST)

Shouldn't be much of a problem now that you deleted certain ones. Thanks for taking the initiative. Also, was the one with a buffalo a copyright violation? --Green Dragon 20:24, 11 January 2007 (MST)
no it was a private picture made by a relative, but in the interest of not putting this site in problems I still removed it, I'm working on a few private pictures to describe the planes in my cosmology. --Ymir 02:39, 15 January 2007 (MST)
Okay. I deleted all the pictures, however if you want a non-copyright one to be on just tell me and I will un-delete it. Thanks. --Green Dragon 09:13, 15 January 2007 (MST)

(another) Question

Hello i'm just getting back into my campaign setting and was wondering something... Some of my deity's from The Test of Time (DnD Campaign Setting) have been inserted into the general DnD Deity's and I was wondering how to do that, since the layout turns out ok and more people can use my creations. Now I tried a few times but it always comes up different then when someone else did it and I would like to keep 1 format for my campaign. any help is welcomed!

—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ymir (talk • contribs) 09:35, 16 January 2007 (MST). Please sign your posts.

Just add the appropriate category (DnD, User, Deity) and it will show up. Its all in the categories. --Green Dragon 15:40, 16 January 2007 (MST)

dlpc or Balance Template

I was just looking at the Homebrew Prestige Class with Description page and noticed that the table was much larger and seemed to simply not to be reading the classes correctly. So, I went and tried to see what I could do to fix it (if anything) - I think that the table is having a problem reading the names from the [Balance Template|Template:PrC Balance], as the names that are outside the table had all had that template applied to them as opposed to the dlpc template. I don't know for sure, but I could understand if it would work if we got all of them to use it, so I thought I'd check and see which is supposed to be used. Passer 04:06, 20 January 2007 (MST)

Honestly, the DLPC does not work via templates. Soon all the PrC's will be converted back to the DPLC's, and the Balance Template will not include the DLPC. For right now make your PrC using both, it might work... --Green Dragon 21:12, 20 January 2007 (MST)

(Character) Flaws

Since I'm not sure if it's technically part of the rules anymore, if I wanted to include charater flaws(Agrophobia, Hypocondria), where would I put them?--Cypresslyshra 18:26, 23 January 2007 (MST)

3.5e Other I would say, unless they are specific to a certain section than put them under that section. However, for common fears (Agrophobia, Hypocondria, etc) 3.5e Other is the place. --Green Dragon 22:07, 23 January 2007 (MST)
Okay, I'll do that--Cypresslyshra 22:23, 23 January 2007 (MST)
Watch out though, if its a feat it really should go under DnD Feats (looking at Talk:Plating Canister (3.5e Equipment)), etc. --Green Dragon 22:26, 23 January 2007 (MST)
That's the thing. It's sort of an Anti-feat, like adding negitive one to the equation. Not certain how well it would fit into the Feats section.--Cypresslyshra 22:30, 23 January 2007 (MST)
I would say make a new section called "Anti-Feats" or "Negative Feats" and add your feats to that new section you would have just created. Does this sound like it would work, or would it confuse people...? --Green Dragon 22:39, 23 January 2007 (MST)
I'd include a little primer at the begining of the page, to aleviate the confusion? I'd be happy to do the work on filling it in it, if we started that up. I'd have to make a note, they don't all give you feats. The OCD flaw, for example, allows the character to automatically pass all spot checks, but they need to make a will save (DC 18) every turn that they don't examine the enviroment, taking a -2 on all rolls if they fail.--Cypresslyshra 22:47, 23 January 2007 (MST)
Okay, here is what you need to do to fit this into D&D Wiki perfectly. Make it a variant rule. And, on the variant rule page briefly explain what this is than give a link to all the things on D&D Wiki that follow this variant rule. On all the pages that follow this variant rule give them a little disclaimer saying something like "This is related to ______________ variant rule, and will work with normal D&D Rules easily, see _______________ for how to implement this into your campaign." Next add all the feats to the list on your variant rule page and on DnD Feats in a good spot (Possibly your own little section, general, or variant, etc). This should work. If I did not makse sense basically just make the item, link it like normal and add a little disclamer linking to your variant rule which would also have a list of all the items that work with this variant. --Green Dragon 22:57, 23 January 2007 (MST)
I shall do that then. Now to go finish the Forgotten Panthion...(Kekeke)--Cypresslyshra 23:00, 23 January 2007 (MST)
  • Phew* so it made sense... --Green Dragon 23:07, 23 January 2007 (MST)
Character Flaws (DnD Variant Rule) Thar it be. I'm leaning towards a section dedicated just to flaws, to see if anyone else has some good ones. Besides, I think I have enough for a section.--Cypresslyshra 15:57, 24 January 2007 (MST)
Amendum: I just realized I pretty much posted that entire section straight from Documentation, so I'm not sure how up to date it is. I declare Meh.--Cypresslyshra 21:28, 24 January 2007 (MST)
I would just say update it as you go along, make sure it is all 3.5e material when done... --Green Dragon 23:11, 24 January 2007 (MST)
I've been half-way watching this discussion (I haven't read every part of it), but if you're using the character flaws variant from Unearthed Arcana, it should be noted that that book contains a lot of OGC. I think it might be a good idea if someone were transcribe the OGC rules from it. I've been thinking about putting it on my TODO list, but I have no idea when I might get my hands on a copy or have to the time to completely port it. Sledged (talk) 10:47, 2 February 2007 (MST)
No, this isn't the flaw system from unearthed Arcana. This is a system that my own DM invented, sort of as a trade off system. He wanted to use it because he had descided that characters were getting too perfect.--Cypresslyshra 20:45, 2 February 2007 (MST)
Tuning in late ... It looks to me like your DM independently invented a system much like the UA system, although his is a bit more elaborate (e.g. severity levels, prerequisites). My recommendation:
  • Include UA and homebrew together in one place, making sure UA flaws are licensed as OGL.
  • Move flaws to their own section, parallel with feats, skills, etc.
  • Start a new conversation thread so I don't wear out my : key. ;)
--Cúthalion 10:00, 13 February 2007 (MST)
Having never read the UA flaws, I wouldn't know how to intigrate them in, but if someone wants to add the UA flaws, they would need to make their own section, since I assume they operate under a different ruleset than Character Flaws (DnD Variant Rule)--Cypresslyshra 11:40, 13 February 2007 (MST)
I'm pretty sure UA uses a subset of the rules you use. I'd be happy to confirm and make the changes if you like (and if no one else objects). --Cúthalion 11:46, 13 February 2007 (MST)
If they use the same rules I think it would be very nice to integrate them together. Do they use the same rules? --Green Dragon 22:59, 13 February 2007 (MST)

skills

This is just a general question I need an answer to. Do you have to be trained by someone in skills that do not allow you to use them untrained? Like say I'm a paladin and want to learn knowledge (religion) which is a skill I cannot use without at least a rank of 1. Could I just invest skill points into this or do I have to have someone with knowledge in religion teach me or say read from a book? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 65.164.48.63 (talk • contribs) 11:44, 28 January 2007 (MST). A brief overview: there are two kinds of skills, Class Skills and non-class Skills. Every level a character gets a certain amount of skill ranks equal to their classes "Skills/Level" + their Int bonus. So, if they get 2 skills per level from their class, and have an int bonus of +3 they get 5 ranks. These ranks can be put in either their class skills or non-class skills. When a character puts a rank in a class skills they get a 1:1 ratio, one ranks in the skill gives them an additional +1. However, if they put a rank in a non-class skill they get a 1:2 ration, it takes 2 ranks go give a +1 in a certain skill. So, you can use any skill you like even if it is not a class skill they are just harder to get better at. Does this answer you question? --Green Dragon 13:02, 28 January 2007 (MST)
I understand that. What I meant was on the character sheets, the skills that have a black square next to them can be used untrained meaning that they can be used automatically without any ranks. What I'm asking is if the skills that don't have squares next to them can have rank added to them after you gain a level, or do you need to have someone teach you these skills so that you can invest points? In other words does someone have to train you to use the trained only skills? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 65.164.48.132 (talk • contribs) 20:09, 28 January 2007 (MST). For the most part, that's the DM's call. There's nothing in the rules that says you have to have a tutor to put ranks in any skill. So unless your DM says otherwise, you can put ranks into any skill in which you haven't already invested skill points. Sledged 19:16, 28 January 2007 (MST)
Hm... I play that one cannot use those skills. Just my version... --Green Dragon 19:22, 28 January 2007 (MST)
The majority implementation of this is that when you gain a level, you can put ranks into anything by following the skill rules. DM's may alter mechanism this to fit their campaign. --Dmilewski 08:05, 10 February 2007 (MST)

D20 PrC with descriptions

So, I tried updating User D20M Prestige Classes with Descriptions, but the format of the template automatically converts the link to the page as (DnD Prestige Class) rather than (D20 Modern Prestige Class). We need to make a new dpl thingy header that doesn't do that. I don't know who to contact... so you seemed like a good bet! :) Sorry for my lack of knowledge in this code... <>EldritchNumen 01:32, 13 February 2007 (MST)

NM! I figured out how to do it myself. I created a new dplc template called D20M_PrC_Description, which is just like the DnD one, except for D20M instead. I'll also make some for D20M base and advanced classes. <>EldritchNumen 01:45, 13 February 2007 (MST)
It looks good, your getting the hang of it. --Green Dragon 22:57, 13 February 2007 (MST)

Minor formatting

Regarding your recent formatting changes:

  1. If you haven't already, you might want to fix the relevant (new class) templates.
  2. You might want to confirm with Sledged about the Balance template. I believe he said it no longer takes multiple fields.
  3. There's considerable inconsistency among the various templates about what belongs in the "Back to" footer.
  4. Is there something wrong with including Paragon Classes (or other subcategories) in the "Back to" chain? I find it useful.

--Cúthalion 09:51, 13 February 2007 (MST)

The "Back to" footer is kind of up in the air right now since a new version is being proposed on Sledged's user talk page. The reason I got rid of the Paragon Classes in the "Back to" footer was because none of the other classes link to anything farther than DnD Classes. Also, I will looks at the Balance template. Finally, what do you mean by #1? I am a little confused... --Green Dragon 23:02, 13 February 2007 (MST)
#1: I don't think the new class templates are formatted the way you like. --Cúthalion 13:23, 14 February 2007 (MST)
I know, I know... I am just too lazy to fix them. Would you like to? --Green Dragon 16:42, 15 February 2007 (MST)
I'd be happy to. But isn't that a sysop job? How do I do it? --Cúthalion 20:04, 15 February 2007 (MST)

Page Content Removal

Is that you or Blue Dragon (IP 127.0.0.1) removing the content from the following pages: Anti-Paladin (DnD Class), Armor Construction Rules (3.5e Variant Rule), 3.5e Races, Category:Skilled, The Tripper (DnD Character Optimization). Sledged (talk) 15:30, 13 February 2007 (MST)

Someone from where I am, but not me. It will not happen again. --Green Dragon 23:02, 13 February 2007 (MST)

Request for assistance

This is Kamin, I'm wondering if you could help me write up stuff like Deities. Although I'm interested in Dungeons and Dragons worlds and the RPG, I have never been able to get the skill set done right. --Kamin 17:24, 15 February 2007 (MST)

What skill set with Deities? I am a little confused. --Green Dragon 17:24, 25 February 2007 (MST)

RE: Welcome to D&D Wiki

Hi Green Dragon. Uh, to your questions, I don't know Wiki Format, I can spend about 30 minutes on contributions a day. But I have school so I might not. --Kamin 09:55, 16 February 2007 (MST)

It's fine, just help as much as you can. If you don't know how to help (don't know what needs to be done) I can give you pointers. Do you want me to do that? --Green Dragon 10:27, 16 February 2007 (MST)
Sure. Pointers would be nice. Kamin 16:54, 16 February 2007 (MST)
Well... If you want to practice your formatting skills add a couple items with D&D Wiki:Items to be added. That should help you to learn D&D Wiki's formating style better. Also, sorry for taking so long to answer however I have been sick and in Southern Utah recently. Sorry. --Green Dragon 13:49, 21 February 2007 (MST)

Greetings from the Netbook of Feats

Hi there,

I just wanted to say thanks very much for including the Netbook of Feats in the D&D Wiki. Looks like a great project you have going here and I'm proud to have our work included.

I'm really impressed with the way you have kept the credits for the feats the way you have. Way beyond what is required by the OGL but very much appreciated.

If there is anything I can do to help you out with updates or data just let me know.

Good gaming,

Hello as well. It is my honor to have the NBoF feats included in D&D Wiki's feats. I have been waiting for this moment to come for quite some time, and I am honestly amazed at how well you are accepting this. I have always known that these feats are okay to have on D&D Wiki with the OGL, however I did not want tensions between the NBoF and D&D Wiki to come about. I really respect the NBoF and I think it does a much better job than D&D Wiki at rating and assessing feats power, playability, and uniqueness. Their are a couple problems with the NBoF feats on D&D Wiki. One of these is that they have not all been added, many of the "Special" or "Different" type feats have not been added to D&D Wiki's feat tables. Another problem is that none of the new version 12.3 feats have been added. Also, most prerequisites have not been added from the feats page to the corresponding tables. Their is still a lot of work to be done, and I am sorry that it has not been done. However, I have a proposition to make you, and I expect you will not like it. Their are many feats (albeit some that are rather shoddy) that are not part of the NBoF. D&D Wiki would be willing to "give" these to the NBoF so they can become part of the NBoF if they were to be reviewed, rated, and fixed by the NBoF while still licensed under the GNU FDL. The problem with these feats is that some have strange prerequisites, are not well made, are confusing, etc and will require a lot of work. So, if you are so willing, D&D Wiki would "give" you these feats if you promise to fix them so they are playable. Does this sound possible? Also, if you just want to help in fully integrating all the feats to D&D Wiki, and not adopting new feats into the NBoF, that is fine. I can help you so you understand how to help D&D Wiki with the NBoF. Would you like to do that and not the adopting, both, none? Whatever is fine just please let me know. --Green Dragon 16:25, 22 February 2007 (MST)
I hope I am formating this correctly... I will have to take a look at the GNU FDL specifics and see how it works. I try to take care that I use the OGL licence and d20 licence correctly and I have some concerns about mixing them together in our publication. As far as fixing up feats go.. that is pretty much what we do on a regular basis. Asside from the feats that come from the SRD, we work with the original authors of the feats to clean them up and improve them before we publish them. For feats from other d20 sources we tend to make the changes ourselves (since generaly the authors can't be contacted directly). Unfortunately in some ways competing Open Source licenses tend to preclude one another (feats in one could not referecne those in another). I'll give it a look though.
Anyhow.. NBOF is free so we are other people using the feats for whatever purpose is pretty much what we hope happens with them. The main goal was to make everyday gamers work accessable and professional enough that it would be used by D&D players around the world. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 206.57.60.147 (talk • contribs) 18:47, 23 February 2007 (MST). You almost formatted it correctly, good job for a second try however. Anyway, please tell me if you think you would be willing to implement these feats into the NBoF with the GNU FDL still in place. Thanks for taking the time to look at this, and I hope it is possible from for the NBoF. --Green Dragon 12:30, 24 February 2007 (MST)

DnD Wiki Template Question

Hi, Is the infobox template on Wikipedia is available here? Thnx Pwsnafu 15:44, 22 February 2007 (MST)

No, I am sorry it is not. You can add it if you so wish. --Green Dragon 16:26, 22 February 2007 (MST)
gollark: Generally they just directly say "I do not understand this, this is a virus" or something.
gollark: Ask what?
gollark: You only need to factor it to *uninstall* potatOS!
gollark: I'll add that as an option, perhaps.
gollark: I'll conßider it.
