The Three Eras of Rome

This is a fairly brief summary of the three major eras of Rome. A campaign could be set in any era, but depending on the era may have a very different theme or feeling.

Kingdom

The kingdom of Rome lasted from about 750 BC to 500 BC. During this time there were seven different kings, one for each hill of Rome. The was burgeoning and had many enemies in rival cities.

Republic

The republic lasted from about 500 BC to 27 BC. This marked the period of the largest expansion.

Empire

The empire lasted from 27 BC to 476 AD. This period was one of the most chaotic politically, but one of the best times to live in Rome, as all free people gained their citizenship at one point.
