Urak (3.5e Race)

Urak

Personality

Though Urak have a repution for being evil raiders and killers, they are a complex people with ancient customs and a way of life close to nature.

Urak intelligence has been a source of contention among scholars. Though many consider Urak to be a primitive and brutish people, those who have studied their customs and way of life have noted that Urak are quite capable, but lack some of the abilities other races may take for granted.

Urak are able to focus quite strongly on tasks they are performing, but lack flexibility which makes it harder for them to deal with certain concepts. They are however a surprisingly spiritual people and are capable of the same emotions as most other races.

Physical Description

The average male Urak stands 5'10" and weighs about 180 lbs. Females are 5'9" and weigh about 140 lbs. Urak have a lean, muscular build. Their skintone varies from tanned to a coppery tone or an earthy brown.

K'Tann have dark brown or black eyes. Their sclera is the same colour, giving them a cold, unnerving, and some would say soulless gaze.

Hair is usually black or dark brown. Blondes and reds are almost completely unknown. As they age, Urak hair turns a dark grey. Males do not possess facial hair and have some body hair, usually on the arms, legs and chest.

Urak facial features are rough with strong brows covered with a slight ridge and heavy jaws. Their teeth are strong and the upper canines are marginally longer than that of humans. Females tend towards triangular faces with high-cut cheekbones and almond-shaped eyes.

Relations

Urak are accustomed to living in a harsh environment and respect strength, courage and the ability to survive in the wild.

Here is what the average Urak thinks of other races :

Humans : Humans are smart and dangerous. They hate those who are not like them. Humans attack us for no reason other than to kill us. Though some are friendly and live in peace with us.

Elves : Elves look weak and thin, but they don't feel frost or the burning sun and their magic is very powerful. Their mind changes like a mad wind. It is hard to understand them, but they do not hate us like humans do.

Dwarves : They think like us. Their mind is like their mountains. They are a strong people, but hide in their burrows and live far away from the wind, the trees and the skies above. They always dig for metal which makes them even stronger. We trade to get their metal and hope to be as strong as they are.

Gnomes : Gnomes love the wind, the trees and the skies above. They are smart and understand nature.

Goblinoids : Goblins are a cruel race, they live for war, but they do not hate as humans do. They fight because it is the path of their hearts.

K'Tann : They are the fire that burns the steppe, they wait, they watch, they respect us.

Alignment

Neutral with lawful tendencies.

Urak believe in a natural order and they rarely deal with the more abstract concepts of good or evil. What is harmful to them and their environment is evil. What is helpful is good.

Lands

Steppes, Grassland

Religion

Urak worship a number of deities. Their chief deity is Alanaka, the earthly mother. Her counterpart is Turik, the heavenly father. They also worship various greater spirits of nature and have a dedicated ancestor worship.

Language

The original Urak language appears to have been limited and uses many loanwords from Highest Common. As a result Urak have a vague grasp of Common and are able to learn it fairly quickly once exposed to it. Urak speak a number of local dialects influenced by neighbouring languages.

Names

Urak have several names. They receive a childhood name which is used until adulthood, but most close relatives may continue to use the childhood name in informal settings. The adult name is unique to each individual. All adults also have a Clan name and a descriptive name.

gollark: I'm not sure either way is *better*, but I prefer CC's simplicity.
gollark: CC is also lacking Unicode support.
gollark: How do these people manage to... productively interact with *anyone*, then?
gollark: It's important that people are able to handle criticism of what they're doing or their ideas without interpreting it as criticism of them.
gollark: I'm not against them, I'm against what they're doing.
