Creatures corrupted by the Far Realm enough to be transformed into monstrous figures, but not enough to lose their sanity, the ulahrasa are an enigmatic race that would inhabit the nightmares of the truly malicious and insane individuals. However, the ulahrasa are gentle creatures that only wish to fit in a world that fears what they do not understand.

Physical Qualities
Ulahrasa resemble humans for the most part. However, a few major differences can easily be seen. Ulahrasa skin color can range from light gray to midnight black, depending on how corrupted the particular individual is. However, an ulahrasa has the uncanny ability to “blend into” their surroundings, becoming translucent and allowing light to pass through their bodies. This is not the only unusual trait that separates the ulahrasa from other races. An ulahrasa’s head looks like an oblong cone: at the base is a human-like face with no mouth, nose, or ears; the end tapers off and becomes a mass of tendrils, which can be controlled by the ulahrasa. Ulahrasa are unable to grow hair, body or otherwise.
On average, ulahrasa are extremely slender, even by human standards. Ulahrasa are easily taller than humans. Standing on long, lithe digitigrade legs, they are extremely acrobatic, capable of easily jumping (and flipping) over a human with a running start. Their slender arms and dexterous fingers are ideal for picking an unwary bystander’s pocket. Ulahrasa have no mouth, nose, or ears. However, they still have piercing black or white eyes. These eyes change color depending on what the particular skin tone is. The darker the skin, the lighter the eyes will be, and vice versa. Because of their innate connection with the Far Realm, many creatures fear their gaze and try not to focus on the eyes. However, it is hard for most creatures to not be terrified and mesmerized by their gaze.
Ulahrasa are genderless beings; however, they may still procreate with other species through a process called “incorporation”. A willing “mate” undergoes a process where both participants’ essences are combined, with the ulahrasa choosing which qualities to pass on to the offspring. The child will always be an ulahrasa, and will not be spawned until the host reaches a place touched by the Far Realm. Most ulahrasa are born with enough of a survival instinct to make it on their own, even immediately after birth; however sometimes an ulahrasa may wish to emulate their human or elven companions and rear the child themselves. This is very rare.
Ulahrasa are extremely long-lived creatures. On average, an ulahrasa can live anywhere from 800-900 years, staying active to the end. However, this comes with a price: most ulahrasa end up becoming mad and corrupted as they grow older. When an ulahrasa dies, their essence is returned to the Far Realm, to continue its sinister machinations.
Playing an Ulahrasa
As a race spawned from the Far Realm, the ulahrasa are distanced from those who know of their origins. Even to those who know nothing of the Far Realm, their unusual appearance and domineering gaze keeps most others at bay. However, ulahrasa that have been incorporated into groups know that this is a fragile relationship between man and monster. As such, they will tend to keep away from the group, focusing on keeping their madness at bay.
Not even stereotyping and social isolation can compare to another huge problem the ulahrasa face: the prospect of becoming an engine of pure destruction. The perfect combination of strength, speed, agility, and mind-power has turned the ulahrasa into what they are today. Without any shred of sanity to hold on to, an ulahrasa will attack anything and everything, spreading chaos into the world around it. However, the ulahrasa realize this and have learned to discipline themselves so they do not succumb to the madness as quickly.
Hailing from the Far Realm, ulahrasa do not usually meddle in the affairs of the gods; however, a few manage to become “enlightened”, using their enhanced physique, mind, and their quasi-stealth to smite the enemies of their patron deity. Some join a religion to help keep them from going mad, others join because they have nothing better to work for. However, many ulahrasa begin to spread chaos at a young age by becoming rogues and thieves; despite their naivety, an ulahrasa still realizes that it is natural for chaos to be sewn.
Ulahrasa Characteristics: Agile, alien, inquisitive, intimidating, maddened, mysterious, otherworldly, scarce
Names: Ulahrasa usually do not give themselves names; however, when asked what they would like to be called, they pick a characteristic that describes them best. Some end up making a name for themselves after they get to know the group extremely well, if only to make themselves feel less like a monster. Below are some example names.
Ulahrasa Chosen Names: Alkaliat, Augluna, Fauralar, Goria, Ithat, Kaithil, Melalikai, Melkau, Saetha, Ulro
Ulahrasa Adventurers
One sample Ulahrasa adventurer is described below.
Kaithil cannot remember where it came from, nor can Kaithil remember who birthed it. All Kaithil can remember is running. Running away from those who wished to harm, maim, and kill it. For days, Kaithil hid from the enraged villagers in the treetops, moving only when necessary and intimidating lone hunters that got in its way. Cold and alone, it was about to die when it stumbled upon a campfire and some adventurers that were spending the night. Kaithil wondered if this group of ragtag humanoids would be able to help it find the answers before the inevitable loss of sanity, and so it hid in the treetops once again, following the group and only revealing itself when they were outnumbered by a group of savage bugbears. Grateful for saving their lives, the group invited Kaithil to join them, which it accepted. Kaithil now wonders if the group will ever find its origin before it’s too late…
