Class Features

A Thrall of Pale Night is granted many terrible powers in return for pledging their soul to the abyss mother. All of the following are class features of the Thrall of Pale Night.

Spellcasting: At every odd level and 10th, you gain new spells per day and an increase in caster level (and spells known, if applicable) as if you had also gained a level in a spellcasting class to which you belonged before adding the prestige class level. You do not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained. If you had more than one spellcasting class before becoming a Thrall of Pale Night, you must decide to which class to add each level for the purpose of determining spells per day, caster level, and spells known.

Spells: To cast a particular spell, you must have a Wisdom score of at least 10 + the spell's level. Your bonus spells are based on your Wisdom. Saves to avoid the effects of your spells have a DC of 10 + the spell's level + your Wis bonus (if any).

Rebuking Undead: The Thrall also adds their class level in Thrall of Pale Night to their cleric levels (if any) for the purposes of rebuking and commanding undead.

Energy Drain (Su): A Thrall of Pale Night gains the ability to drain energy, bestowing negative levels upon its victims. Beginning at 1st level, the touch of a Thrall of Pale Night bestows one negative level on its target. At 7th level, Thrall bestows two negative levels with a touch. These can be delivered through natural attacks, unarmed attacks and touch attacks as normal attack actions. The DC after 24 hours is (10+Thrall Level+Cha Bonus).

Soul Sacrifice (Su): The Thrall may swiftly perform a sacrifice (BOVD pg 26-28) to Pale Night whenever they slay a creature with their Energy Drain. This effect can also be used to coup de grace helpless enemies as if casting Death Knell. Performing a sacrifice this way is sloppy however and imposes a penalty to your Knowledge Religion check of -10.

Soul Casting (Su): Each energy drain successful can restore a 0th level spell slot, or a slot of a spell level equal or less to the HD of a creature slain by energy drain. The Thrall may also spend Dark Craft Gold or Experience on spell components rather than only item creation.

Pale Shroud (Ex): The Thrall becomes enveloped in an invisible Shroud like their patron. This shroud confers one of several benefits which can be changed with one minute of prayer. These shrouds can be seen with trueseeing as white and sepia coloured shrouds wrapped around the Thrall. During combat they whip around violently on ethereal winds.

Shroud of Incorporeality (Su): The Thrall gains a deflection bonus to their ac as if they were an incorporeal creature. With Improved Shroud the thrall is considered incorporeal to attacks. With Shroud Mastery the Thrall and all their equipment becomes entirely incorporeal.

Shroud of Demons (Su): The Thrall gains the benefits of Protection from Good and Protection from Law however the bonus is equal to half their Thrall Level. With Improved Shroud the thrall also gains DR/Good equal to their thrall class level. With Shroud Mastery the Thrall gains the demon subtype granting the appropriate resistances, immunities and telepathy.

Shroud of Death (Su): The Thrall is seen as undead to mindless undead and may control undead that have been succesfully commanded as if they were spawn of the Thrall (HD limit of spawns is Thrall HDx2). Transfering commanded undead to spawns frees up command HD. With Improved Shroud the thrall can choose to create spawn as the create undead spell upon slaying a creature. With Shroud Mastery the thrall may attempt to slay the living with a touch (Save DC 10 + Thrall class level + Cha bonus) as a standard action touch attack.

Shroud of the Obyrith (Su): The Thrall gains a gaze attack that inflicts charm person, hold person or fear upon a target within 30 feet. With Improved Shroud it inflicts charm monster, hold monster or confusion and increases the range to 90 feet. With Shroud Mastery the Thrall gains Regeneration 1/Lawful and the Obyrith subtype however they have no form of madness or true seeing.

Shroud of Mystery (Su): The Thrall gains the benefits of Nondetection and Undetectable Alignment. With Improved Shroud the Thrall becomes invisible. This invisibility refreshes immediately after broken, only allowing a glimpse of the thrall. With Shroud Mastery the Thrall gains SR equal to 10+HD which can be suppressed as an immediate action when targeted by a spell.

Shroud of Flight (Su): The Thrall ignores difficult terrain and gains +10 speed to their base land speed. This is seen as floating slightly above the ground. With Improved Shroud the Thrall gains a flight speed equal to their land speed +10. With Shroud mastery the Thrall gains an additional 10 movespeed while flying and

Summon Demon (Sp): A 5th-level Thrall of Pale Night can summon a demon of 5 HD or less once per day. This functions as a summon monster spell cast by a 15th-level caster. A 9th-level Thrall can summon a demon of 10 HD or less once per day.

Soul Radiance (Su): If a 6th-level Thrall completely drains a creature of energy, it may adopt the creature’s soul radiance, taking the victim’s form, appearance, and abilities (as the shapechange spell) for 24 hours.

Improved Shroud (Ex): The Thrall becomes more tightly wrapped in Pale Night's grasp, they can now gain the benefits of two shrouds simultaneously and can change shrouds as a standard action. All shrouds also gain more abilities.

Shroud Mastery (Ex): The Thrall is fully consumed by their devotion to Pale Night, they can now change their shrouds as a swift action and gain one additional shroud for 10 minutes per HD of a creature killed with Energy Drain. All shrouds also reach their full potential.
