The Void (3.5e Environment)
The Void
An empty sea of darkness, the Void serves as an "Astral Plane" for the cosmologies. Deep Shadow leads into slivers of the Void that reach between the cosmologies, and which can be traveled between these cosmologies. However, the Void has its own inhabitants, and once you get to its wide-open spaces you will meet the deadlier ones for yourself. But it also holds tharzidun, the great old ones, shar, dawn titans, and many other primordials including the shadow. All wait a chance to kill AO and the gods evil and good. There off spring the elder evils are attempting to break the balance by killing the multiverse to allow them to walk anywhere and kill the gods. One god Nerull is corrupt and seeks The tablets of fate and if they are destroyed A gate will open and void shall empty and begin it's conquest against the gods. Signs of tablets in danger. 1st Arch devils and demon lords working together with elder evils. 2nd Elder evils particular Atropus approaching planet in which tablets can be found. 3rd void metal and meteorites appearing in material plane.
Physical Traits
- Gravity: Subjective Directional Gravity/Objective Directional Gravity. The larger Comet Beings can create gravitational fields around themselves, but otherwise residents control gravity.
- Time: Null time. The Void exists outside of time's flow and has its own time stream.
- Size: Infinite.
- Morphic: Alterably morphic. Deities may exist that can alter the structure of the Void, but if so, they have not been found.
Magic, Alignment, and Energy/Elemental Traits
- Elemental Dominance: No elemental dominance.
- Energy Dominance: Some places in the void have the minor negative-dominant trait, and it is rumored that somewhere in the Void is a place similar to the Temporal Energy Plane that is also negative dominant. However, the Void as a whole has no energy dominance.
- Alignment Trait: No alignment trait.
- Magic Trait: Impeded magic. Spellcasters must succeed on a spellcraft check (DC 15 plus the spell's level) or lose the spell.
Plane Links
The most famous link the the Void is that created by the Arcanists. Within Deep Shadow, there are rifts that lead into the Void. These rifts appear little different than the surrounding darkness, so it is possible for a traveler to enter the Void without realizing it until they see a Comet Being or similar landmark. It is said that Planar Rifts - huge orbs of darkness that suck in matter around them - lead to the Void, and that at the heart of the Negative Energy plane there is one such massive rift.
Plane Inhabitants
There are few inhabitants of the plane. The most common are the Comet Beings, said to be the only indigenous species - and even they may not be native. Other inhabitants include the Infinity and the Void Dragons, both examples of the physical corruption this plane can bring upon creatures.
Movement and Combat
Movement and combat are the same as on the Material Plane, except on the surface of particularly massive Comet Beings. They can alter the strength of gravity at will, but usually keep it at a strength roughly equal to that of Earth.
Features of the Plane
The Void is largely, as its name suggests, empty. There are a few recognizable features, however.
Negative Energy storms
Within the Void, there are places that can suck the life out of you. The most minor of these places are simply patches with the Minor Negative Dominance trait, but most come with severe storms. These storms use the rules for severe weather in the Elemental Plane of Air, along with minor negative dominance. Every so often, you will come upon a supernaturally severe storm. This storm uses the rules for a Storm of Vengeance, except that every possible effect is present constantly, and it also has the major negative dominance trait.
Infinity Cities
The Infinity have built up a large number of cities throughout the Void. Spherical structures of tubes and strange machines, they appear more as factories than as cities. The tubes are pneumatic, and the Infinity use them for transportation throughout the machines, in which they eat, sleep, spawn, train, and build battle and work machines. These tubes are 2 and a half feet in diameter, meanng a Medium creature can squeeze though with some difficulty.
Plane Encounters
Few random encounters occur on this plane. But should circumstances necessitate one, use the tables listed below.
Alternate Variances
This plane could easily be used as a space between worlds in a planetary campaign. Alternatively, it could replace the Astral Plane in a darker campaign.
