The Goon (D20 Modern Advanced Class)

The Goon

By day, The Goon usually works one of the innumerable, physically punishing labor jobs found all around Liberty City. Whether he's working on the docks of East Hook or in the chemical plants of Charge Island, his endurance and apparent immunity to harm is what makes him useful. Select this advanced class if you want your character to be a veritable tank, able to take almost any amount of damage, and survive.

The fastest path into this advanced class is from the Tough hero basic class, though other paths are possible.

Class Features

The following features pertain to the Goon advanced class.

Insulting Remarks

One of the first things a Goon learns how to do is insult anyone that they come into contact with. When the Goon uses this ability, he says something really nasty about his target's parentage that causes them to fly into an uncontrollable rage and do anything they can to attack the Goon who said it. This is an attack action that can target a single enemy within visual range, or all enemies within a 50' circle centered on the Goon. Because of the universal nature of these insults, the target(s) are not required to understand what the Goon is saying in order to be affected. Any target(s) must pass a Will saving throw DC 10+(Goon level+CHA modifier), or be effected for a number of combat rounds equal to the Goon's character level.

Limited Immunity

When the Goon reaches 3rd level, he develops a form of immunity from damage. Any damage that doesn't meet or exceed the Goon's massive damage threshold is treated as non-lethal damage. Also, when the Goon has to make a massive damage resistance roll, he adds a +2 class bonus to his roll. This class bonus increases to +5 at 5th level and +8 at 8th level.

Bonus Feat

At 3rd, 6th, and 9th level, the Goon gets a bonus feat. The bonus feat must be selected from the following list, and the Goon must meet all the prerequisites of the feat to select it.

Armor Proficiency (light, medium, heavy), Defensive Martial Arts, Combat Throw, Improved Combat Throw, Elusive Target, Unbalance Opponent, Endurance, Great Fortitude, Heroic Surge, Improved Damage Threshold, Toughness

Take A Knee

At 4th level, when the Goon's hit points drop to 0 or less, instead of becoming disabled, once a day the Goon may instead choose to Take A Knee. This is a full round action. While the Goon is doing this action, he gains a temporary +10 defense bonus, and gains half (round down) of his total hit points as temporary hit point. The temporary hit points are removed once the Goon has left combat. When that happens, if the Goon has any of the temporary hit points left, he only drops to one hit point. At 7th level, the Goon may use this ability twice a day.

Second Wind

When the Goon reaches 10th level, he gains the ability to recover a number of hit points. If the Goon uses this ability, as a full round action he may recover a number of hit points equal to one half of his total hit points (round down). The Goon may use this ability once per day.

gollark: If I wanted sympy, I would use sympy.
gollark: So your expectations would be wrong.
gollark: Well, you would want that, but it doesn't do that.
gollark: Yes.
gollark: baidicoot suggests I have some sort of "try to rewrite this to look like this" operation, but that seems hard/overly general/slow.
