The Elder Scrolls

Cosmology

Nirn is a planet that resides in the Mortal realm of Mundus. Nirn is orbited by two moons: Secunda (The smaller moon) and Masser (The larger moon). There is a theory, most notably hypothesised by the Dwemer, that there are 8 more planets in Mundus which are the bodies of the Aedra or 8 Divines. These "planets" are said to be infinitely large but appear as spheres when comprehended by mortal minds. Therefore Mundus is, to mortal minds, a sphere. It is surrounded by the realms of Oblivion where the Daedra reside. Beyond Oblivion is Aetherius, which is the birthplace of the Aedra and where all magic in Mundus is channeled from. The stars are holes in the realms of Oblivion which allow Aetherius to be seen from Mundus, the largest hole being the sun.

Tamriel

Tamriel is a small continent that is in the Northern hemisphere of Nirn. There are 9 provinces of Tamriel, most of them being controlled by the Cyrodiilic Empire. The provinces are generally divided by geographical features - Skyrim is a snowy region, High Rock is a mountainous region, Morrowind is a volcanic region, Valenwood is a tropical region, etc... Each province has its own laws but the Empire and Aldmeri Dominion are know to impose laws on the provinces they control.

Entities

In the Elder Scrolls Lore, there are two different kinds of gods. The Aedra(our ancestors) and the Daedra(not our ancestors). In different Pantheons they often go by different names.

Aedra

When the god Lorkhan tricked the gods to make Mundus, the Aedra are the ones that sacrificed their power to do so.

Daedra

The Daedra are those who didn´t sacrifice their power in the creation of Mundus, or were created after the world.

Azura

The Queen of Dusk and Dawn, worshiped by the Dunmer(Dark Elves)

Boethiah

Boethiah is one of the 3 main gods worshipped by the Dunmer within the Three Good Daedra in their Pantheon. Boethiah is the Daedric Prince of Deceit, Conspiracy, Sedition and Treachery. Their sphere is the unlawful overthrow of authority. Boethiah is known to enjoy the suffering of mortals.

Clavicus Vile

Clavicus Vile, also known as the Prince of Bargains, is the Daedric Prince of Power, Trickery (similar to Boethiah), Wishes, Serenity and Bargains. He is commonly known for granting wishes and making pacts with mortals. He generally takes the form of a small impish man, though has also manifested as a cloud of red mist.

Hermaeus Mora

Hermaeus Mora, also known as the Gardener of Men, is the Daedric Prince of Knowledge and Memory. His sphere is the scrying of the tides of fate, and the reading of the past and the future as seen in the stars and heavens. He is known for not having much of a moral alignment and welcomes all seekers of knowledge to be his servants.

Jyggalag

Jyggalag is the Daedric Prince of Order and Logic. He has taken account of every detail and action that has ever taken place, long before they actually happen. He believes the concept of individuality is an illusion and is not known to have any followers at all.

Malacath

Malacath, or the Blue God, is the Daedric Prince of the spurned and the ostracized. His circle is conflict and he enjoys observing mortals fight each other. In Dunmer religion he is believed to test the physical weakness of the Dunmer.

Mephala

Mephala is a very obscure Daedric Prince. Her circle is claimed to be lies, sex, murder and secrets, though others claim mortals have no info about it. She is one of the Three Good Daedra worshipped by the Dunmer.

Sheogorath

Sheogorath is the Daedric Prince of Madness. His circle is that of Mania and Dementia. His relation to the Dunmer is to test their psychological weakness, at least within their culture.

Khajiit

The khajiit are a race of feline humanoids hailing from the province of Elsweyr, well-known for their keen intelligence and agility. While these traits make them superb thieves and acrobats, khajiit are also fearsome warriors. However, strenuous training must typically be undertaken to make wielding magic a serious option, either in passive or aggressive actions.

gollark: There is other stuff too.
gollark: SINECOSINETANGENT
gollark: The cosine rule and whatnot are more annoying than just simple sin/cos/tan.
gollark: I like right-angled ones most because you can apply trigonometry to them more easily.
gollark: I quite like them, my favourites are right-angled triangles.
