The Claw (3.5e Equipment)
"The Claw" is one of the many tools designed by Thieves and Assassins Guilds primarily used as a "grapple" gadget to scale the sides of tall structures. The Claw was designed for stealth, granting a +5 bonus to Hide and Move Silently checks, remaining perfectly silent in water as well. The Claws were crafted with Riverine, making the gauntlets immune to all damage save for spells that destroy/dispell, while granting a +5 AC Deflection Bonus. The Spell disintegrate immediately destroys an item made of riverine, as does a rod of cancellation, a sphere of annihilation, or a Mordenkainen's disjunction spell, causing the water to spill out in a sudden rush. Armor and shields made of riverine do not form a complete enclosure, so breath weapons and spells do still affect the wearer. The Claw is appears similar to mercenary gauntlets, being able to lock in place with the additional ability of activating a switch on the forearm, which extends a specially made blade similar to a Katar by about five inches, and can be made to retract via switch the same way. The Claw's blade is silent upon extension, and can be made magically enhanced separately from the gauntlets itself without worry of losing freedom of movement or maneuverability with hands. This makes The Claw extremely versatile, and is therefore handed out exclusively to members of Thieves and Assassin Guilds who've earned their place notably amongst the ranks.
