The Ceaseless Watcher (5e Subclass)

The Ceaseless Watcher

Warlock Subclass

You have made a pact with an extraplanar entity formed of and fueled by the fears of mortals; your patron is associated with the fear of being seen, known, or followed without consent or awareness. This entity is usually unable or unwilling to influence the material plane beyond granting supernatural abilities to those it believes will provide even more fear that it may feed on. If it has chosen you, it either believes you will make the fear of being watched widespread, or that you yourself will develop into a source of this fear.

Expanded Spell List

The Ceaseless Watcher lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you.

LevelSpells
1st levelcomprehend languages, identify
2nddetect thoughts, zone of truth
3rdnondetection, clairvoyance
4thlocate creature, arcane eye
5thgeas, commune
Beholder's Insight

Starting at 1st level, you gain a +1 bonus to Intelligence checks.

Imperceptible Probing

Starting at 6th level, you have become adept at reading the minds of other creatures. When you cast detect thoughts, the target creature has disadvantage on its Wisdom save and is not aware of your probing if it fails this save. Additionally, while the spell is active, you gain advantage on Charisma checks when acting on knowledge you gain through the spell.

It Knows You

Starting at 10th level, it becomes incredibly difficult to knowingly lie to you or avoid answering a direct question you ask. A creature must succeed on a DC 18 Wisdom save every time it wishes to do so, taking 3d10 psychic damage if successful. You are not aware of the results of this roll. Additionally, your Intelligence bonus increases to +3.

Subtle Geas

Starting at 14th level, you may cast geas at 9th level by expending a 5th level spell slot. The target of this spell is unaware they are under its effects until they disobey the command. The spell will end if the target creature has its eyes removed, in addition to the standard methods of ending it; the target is not made aware of this. You cannot use this feature again for 1 week after using it.

Your Pact Boon

Each Pact Boon option produces a special creature or an object that reflects your patron's nature.

Pact of the Chain. Your familiar is curious and intelligent, yet spends hours near motionless, staring at the world around it. It's default form is likely that of an owl or cat.

Pact of the Blade. Servants of the Ceaseless Watcher tend to prefer concealable weapons, and your pact weapon may be difficult to focus on or unusually light.

Pact of the Tome. Your Book of Shadows could be an ancient, ragged codex, filled with the deranged scrawling of those driven mad by knowledge.

gollark: <@332271551481118732> Do you think I can find minoteaur contributors? All I need is people who know Nim/web stack, can somehow fit with my programming style, and who share approximately the same extremely vague vision.
gollark: Interestingly, according to heavpoot, the 34th version of minoteaur is to be rewritten in heavlisp 7.0 after it subsumes JavaScript.
gollark: All insanity can be bidirectionally mapped to an instance of heavlisp.
gollark: Heavlisp is isomorphic to insanity.
gollark: With the lessons learned from osmarkslisp™ it might even have working scope. Although this one also might. I haven't checked.
