Talk:Wookiee Warrior (5e Race)

Balance & Other Concerns

There are a number of concerns I have with this race which make it both better than all other races while also making it not as fun or interesting to play as other races. On balance concerns, having a negative ability score modifier does not allow you to have higher ability score bonuses like in earlier editions. Having two ability scores that increase by 3 is beyond broken, not to mention that the ability scores can go above 20. Those ability scores should really be changed to be +2/1 and the negative ability score is irrelevant when taking about balance, it only really limits what type of characters you can play with the race.

The other major balance concerns are that the race is large sized without using the Large Player Characters and Oversized variant rules, the race has Wookie Endurance which is too good, and the race's speed is doubled in certain terrain. These traits should largely be heavily nerfed to better balance the race. If the race is kept as large size, several traits still need to be removed to balance the race, so I would suggest that the race be made to be Medium size(10ft is max medium size). The Wookie Endurance trait be changed to be only 1 hp increase. Finally, the bonus movement speed in certain terrain should be gotten rid of.

After all the balance problems are taken care of, the last major concern I have with the race is that you can't speak Common which is a huge problem. You basically can not communicate with those you can not understand you and not being able to speak to others leads to a large stifling of roleplaying opportunities for those you play this pc. Although it may be fun to try and make not speaking Common work at first, it will eventually only lead to players being frustrated.--Blobby383b (talk) 14:39, 17 November 2019 (MST)

May I ask where you got the "10 feet is max Medium size" thing from? Based Quincy (talk) 14:50, 17 November 2019 (MST)
I believe that the vertical size of a creature isn't covered in the rules as written, however 10 feet seems to be a good indicator of the start of Large size creatures as shown on pp 248 of the DMG. With that said, a creature that isn't humanoid shaped could easily be Large size when it isn't 10 feet tall if it is especially bulky/large(4 legged creatures, amorphous creatures, ect).--Blobby383b (talk) 14:58, 17 November 2019 (MST)
Maybe it's just a matter of personal preference but I simply cannot wrap my head around the concept of a 10 or even 9 foot tall creature operating on the same scale as a human being. Based Quincy (talk) 15:19, 17 November 2019 (MST)
I agree, even goliath's at 8 feet tall seem to dwarf all other Medium sized races by a decent amount.--Blobby383b (talk) 17:17, 17 November 2019 (MST)
gollark: The next commenter said something about an "element of risk" and how I should just preemptively fog to prevent viewbombing.
gollark: When a dragon flaps its wings in Galsreim, a hurricane occurs, five years later, on Earth.
gollark: An alien manipulating the population of Earth... by changing button colours and mildly infuriating people.
gollark: What if TJ09 has been abducted by aliens?
    gollark: Indeed.
