Talk:Tome of Necromancy (3.5e Sourcebook)/The Necronomicon

Balance

Holy crap, most of these spells are WAY too powerful to be of such low level, and that Tasha's Tomb Tainting one is absolutely ridiculous. And a level 3 spell that can teleport FIVE-HUNDRED POUNDS of characters or objects PER CASTER LEVEL, even ACROSS PLANES? Yeah, right. Really, whoever made these clearly had no idea what they were doing. Not a damn clue. The latter spell should be at least 5th-level and require some variety of costly material component and/or chance of a mishap, like teleport. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 205.250.75.71 (talk • contribs) 17:50, 6 November 2009 (MDT). I disagree, the requirement is awfuly strict, scince you can only teleport to a TOMB, witch are quite rare... maybe 4thlvl, but I think it's close... some of the otheres though... they are two powerful, but just alter the spell lvls and it should be ok.- Chrish —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 96.51.90.131 (talk • contribs) . The teleportation spell is not over powered if you read the last spell "Tomb Tile Tessellation". Which converts a place into a tomb, which means that someone has to set the tomb up, then set the other tomb up using Tomb Tile Tessellation, then use Tasha's Tomb Transport, so along with the one minute cast time of Tasha's Tomb Transport, you also have the 10 minute cast per cast time of Tomb Tile Tessellation, and each time you cast the spell and using up one vial of (un)holy water. Then Tasha's Tomb Tainting requires a BLACK Pearl worth 500gp, now if you play by the core books mainly, finding a item as such would be a pain since it's used for a necromancy spell. Sobering Skeletal Stillness should be a second level spell like hold person, Puppet Dance should be 4th since it's like dominate person but you can't make them use spells, Then Form of Death all I have to say is Clerics Rock. -Rob
For those that say these spells are overpowered. Their really not, for a Frank & K game. Frank & K material is slightly more powerful as it believes that each character should be equal to their companions power. --Milo High-Hill 21:27, 21 February 2011 (MST)
These spells don't seem that bad to me. The teleportation one is the biggest problem, according to critics. It seems to me that it's restricted to the point of almost useless. First you need an area "where the dead have lain for at least 50 years without being returned as undead", and then you need to cast a 2nd level spell (Tomb Tile Tessellation) many, many times. For example, my apartment is about 1000 sq feet, which means it'd take 100 spells to turn it into a tomb. You figure you're a sorcerer with 6 2nd level spells a day, it's going to take you 2.5 weeks to turn my apartment into a tomb(plus, the whole 50 years of housing the dead thing, let's not forget that). After doing all that, you're going to have to do it again (because you must start and end in a tomb). If you think spending a month and a half of game time to build a fast travel system with 2 stops is OP, you're confused. A month and a half of game time spent adventuring would net you several levels, and you could cast real teleportation spells. --Badger 22:19, 21 February 2011 (MST)

Stub and Wikify

Whats with the "Wikify" Template at the top. Its name shouldn't be changed as thats the name of the chapter. Thirdly the "Tombs" and "Forsaken Graveyards are in the New Rules chapter. --Milo High-Hill 21:27, 21 February 2011 (MST)

Thanks for letting me know where those were. I linked them appropriately, and removed the template. Okay, the name is not terribly important, but the rest of the reason on wikify is important. --Green Dragon 21:36, 21 February 2011 (MST)
I'll start moving the spells tommorrow. They should still stay here as well. And not be links. And like Badger I don't think the spells are overpowered.--01:15, 22 February 2011 (MST)

gollark: I see.
gollark: Is... that surprising?
gollark: Sad. Do so.
gollark: You just retroactively think you did.
