Talk:Swordmaster (5e Class)
Could you include a source for the picture? SirSprinkles (talk) 23:41, 20 November 2016 (MST)
- I really like the ideas for this class, has some neat things, but I thought I'd point out one thing; For the 10 daggers or 2 handaxes in starting gear, while the daggers are dependant on if the DM counts them as swords or not, the handaxes are definitely not swords. Starting with weapons the character isn't even proficient with is a bit counterintuitive. I'd personally replace them with something more sword-like, or just make it start with 10 daggers and no alternate option.--Blackbando (talk) 06:43, 20 January 2017 (MST)
- Rule of thumb #1: Classes should be broad, not narrow. (Not only does this class focus on one type of weapon, it prevents you from optionally broadening to other weapons if you decide to multiclass, or be dwarfy.)
- Rule of thumb #2: Don't add extra die rolls to frequent actions. (Bravado says "when you strike" which has no definition but could be interpreted as every melee, ranged, weapon or spell attacks. Every time you attack, you are adding a skill check and a saving throw. You also shouldn't oppose a skill check with a saving throw. Dervish also adds two extra die rolls nearly every turn.)
- What is a "bonus initial action"?
- "per encounter" isn't a 5e duration.
- Shouldn't giant killer be a reaction?
- I'm not sure what Reaper does exactly.
- Rule of thumb #3: Advantage is a circumstantial bonus, not a permanent bonus (Myrmidon's Eye)
- Rising Gale Force. Suggest reading similar effects in PHB to see how this is worded (such as freedom of movement). Nothing "cancels your actions".
- Be clear on what triggers are (artful dodger)
- What is "non-fatal melee damage" (a melee attack can only outright kill you if you take massive damage. Or do you just mean an attack that drops you to 0 hit points? But then, you wouldn't be able to counterattack then anyway...) What is the "deadly counter attack?"
- Rule of thumb #4: Don't be swingy (Before Swine might be either overpowered, or might be completely useless, depending on the campaign)
- Rule of thumb #5: Don't count rounds (Divine wind)
- So far nothing seems exclusively sword related. You could replace the word "sword" with any other kind of weapon. There isn't really a unique and flavourful core feature, and largely the features don't seem tied together with a theme. Marasmusine (talk) 10:10, 20 January 2017 (MST)
