Talk:Summoner, Variant (5e Class)

Just a few things in regards to this class idea. I'm going on a limb to assume you're the same author (or are ripping the work of said author) for the article that is now known as the "Spatial Summoner"? If you are you either missed a few spells when copying the list, or you removed them on purpose, either way I'd like to point out the Summoner as a "Fullcaster" has very little offensive spells to choose from, the best I can find is 1 or 2 spells per spell level that actually deal damage. I don't know if the intent was to make the Summoner more focused on utility or what but between the few spells it has a Summoner has very little options in combat overall, just wanted to mention this.

It should be worth noting that both of these classes are heavily based on other Summoner classes, anyhow. Though someone has added a couple offensive spells, which makes sense. --SgtLion (talk) 02:06, 22 September 2017 (MDT)

Changes

As an IP seemed to massively increase the power of this class, mainly for lower levels, in a way that you could have basically a dragon by level 5, I have reverted the progression back to more normal things. It wasn't actually as major a nerf as I envisioned, as by level 10, you are essentially the same power level, which is perfectly fine. I have also protected the page from IP edits, as it seems to have swung this class a bit over the years. Feel free to change anything if you think this was unfair edit. --SgtLion (talk) 02:06, 22 September 2017 (MDT)

Questions

Sorry - I've just noticed that the class table says the class starts with 8 evolution points, but then later in the description, states that a level 1 summoner has 3 EP. Is this a legitimate inconsistency, or am I failing to understand what each thing describes? - --Jakeo5253 (talk) 09:09, 1 December 2017 (MST)

I'm pretty sure it was just an overlooked number when converting from the other custom Summoner class. The table not only starts at 3, it also smoothly increases from there, and that's almost certainly the intent. I changed the 8 -> 3, but others can feel free to change it back and note here why it said that if I'm wrong. Xander9009 (talk) 18:26, 19 June 2018 (MDT)

Limbs and slam attack

"The eidolon does not gain any additional natural attacks for an additional pair of arms, but it can take other evolutions that add additional attacks (such as claws or a slam)." Does this mean if I had a summon will 2 limb evolutions and 2 slams that I could attack twice? And with 3 limbs and 3 slams selected I could attack 3 times? Or do they stack? So I take 1 attack action and slam X 3?

Question on spell count

So I saw that inside the spells known section on the table, level 1 starts with 4 spells known. However down in the spellcasting section within the class, it says the summoner only starts with 3 first level spells. Which count would one go with? Cantrip count is the same in both sections, so I'm guessing this is an error, but which number is right. --The Grand Showmanship 14:59, 2 August 2020 (MDT)

I would say that the correct answer is 4 spells known. However, this seems pretty excessive and unbalanced. 2 starting cantrips, scaling to 4 cantrips total seems to be the most balanced approach. I'm not the creator, but if you are intending to use this class, use with caution, this class have been buffed through the years. Anastacio (talk) 13:21, 3 August 2020 (MDT)
Thank you for the advice and I will keep all this in mind. --The Grand Showmanship 13:41, 3 August 2020 (MDT)
gollark: Hey rocket, vote gibson?
gollark: Sleep or we install PHP.
gollark: Oh yes, because NOBODY would just randomly ignore unsolicited direct messages.
gollark: Also, sleep is important to long-term health? Also short-term health?
gollark: How would we SECRETLY get votes? I honestly have no idea how to get them nonsecretly!
