Talk:Sentient Ooze (5e Creature)

i think there are some issues with this creature that need addressing: - What does "turned into an ooze version of itself" entail for the affected creature? How do its creature type, ability scores and racial traits change?

- I would advocate for introducing accesible ways to end this affliction as having your alignment, gender, race and personality irrevocably and forcefully altered because you were hit by a grapple and failed 2 saving throws is not fun at this level.

- In addition, being incapacitated for 24 hours disables the character for a long time, think about what the player is supposed to do in the mean time.

i think it would be more fun to reduce the transformation to 1 hour and being able to prevent it by destroying the "egg", and to changes its immunity to most damage into merely a resistance. Lastly, the indoctrination lasts the full 24 hours, but can be prevent if the sentient ooze is killed beforehand. Even than, a greater restoration should be able to reverse all the effects.

On the other hand, you can limit the ooze kiss to a sentient ooze of a higher CR and change the trigger condition to being reduced to 0 hit points or killed, similar to how some undead create more undead by killing humanoids.

I made some changes to the creature, but had to delete an part of the ruling for the sake of readability and because i was not entirely satisfied with the first solution. (It sounded a bit like an ooze fetish, but on the other hand, what about this creature didn't sound like one?) I keep it here in case anyone wants to bring it back in a more tasteful manner or disagrees with my judgement:

If a creature has found itself to be happy (not just because of the indoctrination, but because of its own sense of identity, once restored) with its new gender or ooze body, the subject can decide to halt the restoration at a point where their body is left in half-state, not quite back to normal, but no longer a sentient ooze in the strict sense. They regain their lost racial traits, lose the ooze link and amorphous features, but retain the ooze creature type. If their gender was altered, they can choose to revert to their old gender or remain in the altered state. Although their body is still slimy and slightly amorphous if their concentration falters, their general shape is fixed and their goo takes on a color closer to their original skin color.
