Talk:Mystic Theurge (5e Class)

The spell table is wrong. You have to use the multiclass Chart on pg 165 because 5th edition does not allow individual spell tables.

Also the mystic theurge abilities are based on a sorc but you need to consider a mage/clr and other classes in it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by BetaVirus (talk • contribs) . Please sign your posts.

Hi, I'm not quite sure what you mean. It is true that because by definition this class will be on a multiclass character the character's actual spell slots will under no circumstance match what is shown on the spell table, but it is included because it signals that the class counts as a full spellcasting class. The Metamagician feature is based on the sorcerer's metamagic, but should be worded in such a way that any combination of classes can use it. If this does not address your issue, please elaborate. — Geodude671 (talk | contribs | email)‎ . . 21:27, 3 January 2018 (MST)
I am still very new to this wiki discussion/reply/editing thing. I hope just clicking edit is how you reply because i could not find another way.----- As this class was originally designed for full casters it does not work for the other classes, so it would still use the same spellcasting table as a full caster class in line with Clr, Dru, Sorc, Wiz; with the exception that it requires the player to have previous levels in on of the main caster classes of Clr/Dru/Sor/Wiz.
With that said the class needs to make clear to the player, that it only grants you spell levels and not skills or abilities. The only exception that I can agree with is the Ability score increase starting at fist level of the Mystic class and every 4 levels after (1st,4,8,10).
Now if we wanted to make it more of a class in its own right, we have to be true to the class and not trying to base it off of the original posters class choices of Sorc; see example table below:

Class Features

As a Mystic Theurge you gain the following class features.

Hit Points

Hit Dice: 1d6 per Mystic Theurge level
Hit Points per Level: 1d6 (or 4) + Constitution modifier per Mystic Theurge level

Spell Progression

The mystic theurge class does not have any spells of its own; Instead, it boosts the spellcasting progression of your one Divine and Arcane class. When determining the number of spells you can prepare for your Divine and Arcane spellcasting classes, add the total level in that class plus your mystic theurge level. For example; a 3rd level Sorcerer with 10 levels of Theurge would know and prepared spell equal to a 13th level Sorcerer. All other rules for multi classing still apply, you will use the Multiclass Spell caster chart on Page 165 of the Players Handbook for how many spells per day you can cast.

Theurge Class Feature =

Starting at 3rd level and every 4th level thereafter, you may choose to gain the class feature(s) of either your divine or arcane casting class for that level (or lower). This feature must be equal to your level in that class plus your Theurge class (or lower).

Example 1: if you are a Cleric/Sorc of 3rd level + Theurge 3, you total level would be 6 in both classes. So, you would be able to choose Channel Divinity (2/rest) and Divine Domain features, or sorcerous Origin feature.
Example 2: if you are a Druid/Wizard of 3rd level + Theurge 3, you total level would be 6 in both classes. So, you would be able to choose Druid Circle feature, or Arcane Tradition feature.

PS I do not know how to remove the spell table from the example I sent--15.65.244.11 14:36, 5 January 2018 (MST)=BetaVirus

I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I still don't see the issue. As I've stated before, the only feature of this class that is based on the sorcerer is Metamagician, and the way that feature is worded should allow a character of any class to use it, not just sorcerer. — Geodude671 (talk | contribs | email)‎ . . 15:40, 5 January 2018 (MST)
Basically, all I am saying is that this class is giving abilities that should not be. The Mystic Theurge is a class to simply help restore the players spells known and spells prepared after each long rest. It was not meant to grant players a way to gain new abilities.
On that note, I think I understand, DND WIKI homebrew is about the creators making their own variant option, not necessarily trying to build a direct conversion that is exactly true to the original. In other words this is the vision of the original person, and what I need to do is make a Mystic Theurge (Alternative) with why I think it should be. It is true that the Mystic Theurge class only advanced your spellcaster level in 3.5e, but doing that doesn't exactly jive with 5e design philosophy, as that would result in a lot of dead levels. The current version of this class grants class features at even levels that don't have an ability score increase, following the precedent of classes like the wizard.
Yes, I believe you should make a fork of this page (perhaps at Mystic Theurge, Variant (5e Class)?). — Geodude671 (talk | contribs | email)‎ . . 00:04, 6 January 2018 (MST)

Subclass?

I think this could be a multi-class subclass of the sorcerer and cleric classes. Arquebus (talk) 20:40, 23 November 2020 (MST)
