I am quite secure in my knowledge of Greco-Roman history and culture. Do you mind if I make a contribution to this page? I won't tamper with anything unless I'm approved. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.108.210.255 (talk • contribs) 07:44, 1 June 2007 (MDT). Please sign your posts.
- Sorry for not signing the above. I will go by the pesudonym of "noname" for the purposes of Anonymity. An idea I have would be to add a specific class or specific set of classes for each Meditarranean culture. Rome could have the thaumaturgs and augers, Greece could have philosopher-mages, mystics and astrologers, Persia could have Zoroastrian prophets as well as mystics and astrologers of their own, while Babylon would just have astrologers. Carthage and its parent civilization of Pheonicia would have evil mage-priests who worshiped such evil gods as Baal and Dagon. As for physical combat units... Rome would have its Legionnaries, Greece would have hoplites, and Persia would have so called "Immortals." Equipment could include Hoplons (round Greek shields), Corinthian helmets, greaves, cuirasses, the Roman lorica segmentata, lorica squamata, (Legionnaire armor,)lorica plumata (Roman plumed helmet),lorica manica (Roman arm guard), and the second-class lorica hamata used by auxilaries. Myrmidons and Sparti (not soldiers from Sparta; the seven foot tall men from the Argonautica myth who sprang from a field which was sown with dragon's teeth) could also appear in Greek-based quests. Some weapons could include the Roman gladius (short sword), the Greek Xiphos (mid-length sword), Roman Pugio (dagger), Roman Spatha (long sword with possible Greek and/or Germanic origins), Roman Pilum (javelin), Roman Verutum (a javelin which could be effectively used against elephants!), Roman Lancea (auxilary short javelin), Greek Sarissa (over 20 feet long; used extensively by Macedon) Roman Spiculum (javelin which replaced the pilum in late antiquity), Greek Doru (general purpose spear), and the Greek Xyston (a lance which was longer than the Doru but shorter than the Sarissa.) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.108.210.255 (talk • contribs) 17:34, 1 June 2007 (MDT). - Certainly! I'd love for someone to flesh out the setting. I just jotted down a few scattered notes, really. Be my guest! I look forward to your contributions! –EldritchNumen 18:46, 2 June 2007 (MDT)
gollark: (it was made for a competition, so this is very reasonable)
gollark: * validating, not parsing
gollark: Check out my JSON parsing regular expression: ``[\t\n ]*(?:(?:\[[\t\n ]*(?:|(?R)|(?R)(?:,[\t\n ]*(?R)[\t\n ]*)*)[\t\n ]*])|(?:{(?:[\t\n ]*|(?:[\t\n ]*"(?:[^"\\\n]|\\["\\/bfnrt]|\\u[0-9a-fA-F]{4})*"[\t\n ]*:[\t\n ]*(?R)[\t\n ]*)|(?:(?:[\t\n ]*"(?:[^"\\\n]|\\["\\/bfnrt]|\\u[0-9a-fA-F]{4})*"[\t\n ]*:[\t\n ]*(?R)[\t\n ]*)(?:,(?:[\t\n ]*"(?:[^"\\\n]|\\["\\/bfnrt]|\\u[0-9a-fA-F]{4})*"[\t\n ]*:[\t\n ]*(?R)[\t\n ]*))*))})|(?:true|false|null|\-?(?:0|[1-9][0-9]*)(?:\.[0-9]+)?(?:[eE][+-]?[0-9]+)?|"(?:[^"\\\n]|\\["\\/bfnrt]|\\u[0-9a-fA-F]{4})*"))[\t\n ]*``.
gollark: There was "minecraft pi edition" years ago, with a python API.
gollark: Minecraft stores its files in such an accursedly wide range of formats.
