Talk:Gentleman (5e Class)
Finally "finished" this after about two years of working on it.
Just got around to posting it to this wiki for constructive criticism. I am aware that some things may be broken or overpowered, but that k9inda why i put it up here. Things subject to change based on advice and recommendations.
Help with the wording is appreciated, and by all means feel free to fix formatting, grammar or spelling mistakes.
I'll take an attempt at polishing up this homebrew. (Comments and explanitions will be in parenthesis.)
Hope you like it.

Class table:
First off, drop unarmed proficiency, every one is proficient with Unarmed Strikes.
Fistycuffs: 1st-4th: 1d4, 5th-10th: 1d6, 11th-16th: 1d8, 17th-20th: 1d10 (Unarmed damage should match that of the monk)
Anger of The Gentlemen
While in combat, whenever a female ally takes damage it forces a gentlemen into a state of which all wise men fear. While a female friendly creature is below one half of their maximum hit points, you gain temporary hit points equal to your charisma ability modifier, and a temporary +1 to attack and damage rolls. This feature is doubled while a female friendly creature is incapacitated. This feature is only available while in combat.
Chivalry
As long as a creature has a gender you are able to determine whether or not it is female.
While in the presence of a woman, of any race, a gentlemen always shows her the utmost respect. You receive a +1 bonus to all charisma saving throws while you are within 20 feet of a female friendly creature. However, while in combat you have disadvantage against all female creatures.
Because of this self imposed oath, if a gentlemen willingly strikes a woman, hostile or not, for whatever reason, he may not use any of his class abilities until he has formally, and graciously apologized to the woman that he has wronged.
Fisticuffs
As a gentlemen you are obligated to use your bare fists to solve disputes. Due to using them extensively you, as a gentlemen are adept at using your Fisticuffs. Starting at 1st level you deal 1d4 bonus damage while attacking unarmed, increasing to 1d6 at 5th level, 1d8 at 11th, and 1d10 at 17th. You can use Dexterity instead of Strength for the attack and damage rolls of your unarmed stikes. (Unarmed strikes are not weapons and shouldn't have the finesse property due to rule interaction.) When you use the attack action on your turn, you can make one unarmed stike as a bonus action. (They way it was worded let extra attack be used as a bonus action.)
Unarmored Defense
Starting at 1st level when you are not wearing any armor or using a shield your AC is equal to 10 + your dexterity modifier + your charisma modifier. (Don't use proficiency bonus in AC calculation)
On My Honor
At 2nd level once per short rest you may add your Fisticuff damage bonus to a single skill check you feel you are morally obligated to make. (Short rest and clarification)
Jack of All Trades
At 3rd level, you can add half your proficiency bonus, rounded down, to any ability check you make that doesn’t already include your proficiency bonus.
Man of Many Hats
(Free Multi-classing is too much)
Looks That Kill
At level 3 as a Gentlemen you can use you killer looks to impose a threat on your target. Your attacks score a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20. At 15th level your attacks score a critical hit on a roll of 18-20. (this now matches the champion fighter.)
Ability Score Increase
When you reach 4th level, and again at 8th, 12th, 16th and 19th level, you can increase one ability score of your choice by 2, or you can increase two ability scores of your choice by 1. As normal, you can't increase an ability score above 20 using this feature.
After You
At level 4, after Initiative is rolled you may swap initiative with another friendly creature as long as they rolled lower than you.
A Man's Duty
At level 5 while in combat, if you are within 10 feet of a female friendly creature, you may use your charisma modifier for your melee attack rolls and damage bonuses rather than your strength or dexterity.
Extra Attack
Beginning at 5th level, you can attack twice, instead of once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn. The number of attacks increases to three when you reach 11th level in this class.
Challenge
At level 6 you may issue a Challenge to another male creature of which you share at least one language with. Both you and the Challenged creature have disadvantage on attacking another creature until either you or the challenged are incapacitated or killed. (Better fits form of similar mechanics.)
Roll Up The Sleeves
At level 7 you can rolls up your sleeves to use your hands more effectively. While your sleeves are rolled you, as the Gentlemen, may use your Charisma as if it were your Dexterity. You may only have your sleeves rolled for a maximum of one half hour before you become annoyed and uncomfortable and roll them back down. After a short or long rest you may roll up your sleeves again. (This could use better explanation)
Flawless Form
At 9th level your unarmed stikes count as magical for the purpose of overcomming resistnces and immunities.
Dashing Rogue
At level 10 choose two of your skill proficiencies. Your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make that uses either of the chosen proficiencies. Your movement speed is also increased by 10 feet.
The Ol’ One, Two
At level 13, Once while your sleeves are rolled up, you may choose to take an additional attack action. When you make your second attack action, add your fisticuffs bonus damage to your attack roll. Once you have finished the second attack action your sleeves are rolled back down and you can not roll up your sleaves until you take a long rest. (x2 attacks is very powerful)
Handsome Devil
At Level 15 your charm raises to super natural levels. Add 2 to your Charisma score up to a maximum of 22.
Cleaning House
At 17th level, when you score a critical hit you may roll an additional damage die. Additionaly on your turn, if you score a critical hit and reduce a creature to 0 hit points, you may attack another creature within range with an unarmed strike.
My Lady Would Like To Have A Word
At 20th level, as an action while you are within 20 feet of a female ally you may have her use her reaction to make up to 4 attacks and move up to her speed.
Fixed, Corrected, and Changed things.
Fixed some wording, and grammar issues.
Re-edited and revised some edits that did not belong. (Fisticuffs having finesse?)
Removed proficiency bonus from the unarmored defense.
Modified Fisticuffs damage. (Hesitant on this one, as it was originally planned that punching things is would be the main source of damage for this class.)
On My Honor - Clarified (hopefully)
Man of Many Hats - My sloppy attempt at adding an "Archetype" kinda thing to the class. limited the options to Fighter, Ranger or Wizard. As well as adding additional restraints on what class features are gained using Man of Many Hats.
Looks That Kill - Changed to suggested.
Roll Up The Sleeves - Attempted a better discription.
Flawless Form and Cleaning House - Added as per suggestion, may change its name to something more 'gentlemanly'
The Ol’ One, Two - Changed to avoid giving an additional attack.
Handsome Devil - Changed because after playtesting giving free polymorphs was not a good idea. Also, the suggested change works much better.
My Lady Would Like To Have A Word - I love this too much to not add it.

Glad you liked my input, I have a few things remaing tho. You don't need to list proficency with unarmed strikes, everyone is (see pbh errata). Second, add ability score improvements to the list of things not gotten with Many Hats. Add Rapier proficiency for style. Have fisticuffs give ability to attack with bonus action (This should remove worry on using unarmed as main attack).
I also think that this class should not use Dex. for unarmed. Str. & Cha. should be the classes primary states with Dex. trietary.
Essentialy this class should be an in between the fighter and monk while not overshadowing either and present something unique. So far this is a wonderful class. --Zero1323 (talk) 00:42, 3 November 2016 (MDT)
Things went wonky :/
I messed up some things in my last edit so I fixed those.
Also changed Save proficiencies to only Strength and Charisma. On the topic of proficiencies, I thought I added the Rapier to the weapons list, turns out I forgot it. It is there now!
As suggested, I gave fisticuffs the ability to be used as an option during bonus actions. However, I am not sure if this extends to Attacks of Opportunities, and reactions. I also formatted to look more like the monks Martial Arts.
Man of many hats no longer allows for Ability score increases.

A Hope of Completion
Upon seeing the lovely little flag that was added to this creation, I wish to rectify the concerns brought up by it.
Chivalry: The disadvantage is imposed on anything directly pertaining to anything that could cause physical, emotional or mental harm to the female creature. Like Attack rolls, and Skill Checks.
Challenge: Can only challenge creatures that are a maximum of 10 feet away.
Anger of The Gentlemen : Last until allies are healed, or end of combat.
Level 9: Looking for something, but considering the bull shittery that goes on in this class, I think leaving one level blank is okay.
Level 1: it is to note that Anger of the Gentlemen Stacks with how many allies that are low health or down, i think being a bit weak is okay, considering its later levels abilities.

I'm Back and i'm making some changes!
After a couple of years of playtesting and editing the Class. I'm going to be revising The Gentlemen over the course of many edits. This may fix the balancing issues as flagged.
Changes made:
- reduced class hit die to D8s - Skills are now Choose any TWO - Reduced Extra attack to 1 - Chivalry is now 'Oath of Chivalry' - Reworked Oath of Chivalry - Reworked Anger of the Gentlemen - Added 'Hat Trick' at level 10 - Reworded 'On My Honor' - Removed the 10ft condition from 'A Mans Duty' - Moved 'Looks That Kill' to 5th level - Removed 'For Honor' - A complete overhaul of 'Man of Many Hats'
I will add the Hat selection later at the bottom of the page.
Asking for a second set of eyes to look out for spelling, grammar, and rules wording.
More to come. -JayHinch
Finished my update! Hats now available for selection, and fixed Challenge.

P.S. I forgot to log in for my edit. Oops.
This class is fascinating, but I'm curious about how your play tests went. Anything notable to report?
I'm also curious about the Hunter. Secret hats? Oooooh.
