Talk:Gebby (3.5e Race)

Deletion Balance

This race is (as far as I can tell) finished. Suggestions are welcome.1337 w0n (talk) 23:58, 12 November 2012 (MST)

Current Issues

  • Inadequate Description: While it is adequate, it is still unfinished. I need to come up with the specifics of the symbiotic relationships the gebbies have with the progenitors, and also I need to make a page for their deity. maybe I'll put the information there instead.1337 w0n (talk) 23:24, 23 October 2012 (MDT) I'm putting the rest of the information on gebbys in their peripheral pages: Gebbyblybyb, Gebby Paragon Class, Gebby Progenitor.1337 w0n (talk) 23:57, 12 November 2012 (MST)
  • Mapping LA and Mutation guidelines: I think I'm finished, but I could be wrong. If anyone sees any issues with the current system, please tell me. 1337 w0n (talk) 23:57, 12 November 2012 (MST)
  • "Wonky" Mechanics: Something being unusual does not make it bad by default.1337 w0n (talk) 05:38, 26 August 2012 (MDT)

Guidelines for selecting mutations

Gebby are meant to be customizable according to a player, or the DM (As NPCs or DM-rolled PCs). 1337 w0n (talk) 04:49, 26 August 2012 (MDT)

See "Mutations (Ex)" in the main page.1337 w0n (talk) 15:34, 31 August 2012 (MDT)

Guideline Ideas

  • What the DM says goes. Period.1337 w0n (talk) 05:38, 26 August 2012 (MDT)
  • A Player can not make a Gebby with a negative LA1337 w0n (talk) 04:52, 26 August 2012 (MDT)
  • Gebby do not gain Hit Dice from LA above one, Just difficult encounters.1337 w0n (talk) 05:38, 26 August 2012 (MDT)
  • OR: Gebby can't have a level adjustment above one1337 w0n (talk) 06:43, 2 September 2012 (MDT)
  • This was here but after getting some good advice I realized it was too powerful for the system to work with it1337 w0n (talk) 06:43, 2 September 2012 (MDT)
* Vision 14 Fold: True Seeing; +4 LA
  • Lowering stat mutations Should be scaled by how much it damages the character. (E.g. a wizard should not gain as much (or possibly any)benefit from lowering his strength, while a barbarian should get at least some bonus from lowering his strength)1337 w0n (talk) 03:57, 5 September 2012 (MDT)
  • Perhaps scaling by what the stat would be if the gebby didn't have the mutation. Something like this:≥18=(-2); 17-14=(-1); ≤13=01337 w0n (talk) 10:59, 8 September 2012 (MDT)

Feedback

This is just my opinion, it's been a while since I've played 3.5e, but I did have Savage Species. A LA should be keyed on the loadout's most powerful trait, with lesser traits contributing less exponentially. If I've got True Seeing, a level 6 wizard spell, then being able to smell colour and being aquatic isn't going to increase the LA any further - but they might be worth 1 LA if I didn't have True Seeing.

The ability score penalties are a problem. Firstly ability scores aren't valued the same. Secondly, it allows a player to further dump their chosen dump stat for a 'free' +1 LA mutation when actually it wouldn't change their effective power level.

  • I see. I would have to either get rid of them, or scale them. I'm not as close as I thought I was, but I am much closer.1337 w0n (talk) 06:14, 2 September 2012 (MDT)

Also, I may have missed something, but how many "neutral" mutations can be taken?

  • You can have as many Neutral mutations as you want. Two of them change existing racial traits into other racial traits, one of them changes the starting Hit die into a character class, and one is two are purely aesthetic.1337 w0n (talk) 06:14, 2 September 2012 (MDT)
gollark: Using a word which is technically right by a dictionary definition can be misleading because it has connotations which possible alternate choices of word don't.
gollark: They are important. Words aren't clear cut definitions like, say, mathematical objects, and the dictionary just points to some common uses.
gollark: Great!
gollark: That's not actually what I said.
gollark: I failed to come up with a non-politically-charged example so I'll just use a horribly politically charged one: people arguing over statements like "abortion is murder" is pointless, as you're basically just arguing over whether you get to associate it with bad things or not, instead of getting to the actual underlying questions about, say, rights of unborn babies.
