Musicus Meter

Musicus Meter
Score: 8
This race has a score of 8 according to the Musicus Meter race guidelines. With this metric, first-party races' scores range from 4.5 to 8. This is a guideline, not a rule, and it's important to use your own judgment alongside this scoring.
This scoring may be the groundwork for a focused {{needsbalance}} usage. A contributor to this page may request a detailed breakdown of this page's balance. Without this information, {{needsbalance}} may then be removed. This meter cannot be the sole basis for a needsbalance template, but may be included as an accessory to a wider discussion of a race's balance.
This template should only be placed on a race's talk page. If this template is not placed on the talk page, please move it.

Balance Concerns

The creator of this race has claimed this race is balanced in reference to the Musicus Meter and refuses to acknowledge needs balance concerns. As such a breakdown has been produced of the current revision of the race to show the user the invalidity of their state that this race is balanced when put through the Musicus Meter (5e Guideline).

CostRacial Trait
2Charisma score increases by 2.
0.5Dexterity score increases by 1.
0Strength score decreases by 2.
-2Tiny.
6Flying speed 60 feet.
0.5Darkvision.
1+Invisibility(with no duration).
1Telepathy.
4.5Magic Resistance.
1?Euphoric Breath.
0.5Extra Language.
15+Total.

As you can see this race goes far outside of the recommended parameters fo the Musicus Meter(5-6) with its impressive score of 15+, a score that trumps even the critically condemned Yuan-Ti Purebloods score of 11.5. If you have any question to the legitimacy of this score feel free to ask and until then I will re-add the much-needed needsbalance template back in for removed when this race meets a comparative standard of balance to the first party races. --ConcealedLight (talk) 10:17, 27 February 2018 (MST)

Invisibility that ends as soon as you do anything (read the entry). Once per rest. The duration was meant to be in line with the Invisibility spell; that was my own fault. According the meter, any speed reduction under the standard is -0.5 per 5 feet, so that's -4. Euphoric breath doesn't have most of the effectiveness of a usual breath weapon, but I'll not argue about it since it is non-standard (and I do think I should rework it anyway). Telepathy is limited to one target that knows one of your languages, so it's significantly less powerful than the standard MM Telepathy (which is just everyone you can see all the time no matter what languages anyone knows). Strength is reduced, and if a negative ability score doesn't constitute a negative on the meter, then positives probably shouldn't be considered full points either. But that's just my opinion. Magic Resistance shouldn't be more than 4 points since Cunning is only 2, and isn't on the meter anyway, so I feel your opinion on what it's worth to be exaggerated. Even so, I do see what you mean. I'll rework some of it.--Busterwilde3 (talk) 10:34, 27 February 2018 (MST)
The revision actually says if you make an attack, or cast a spell or you concentration ends without specifying a duration so it was permament invisibility that you could use to fly all over the place. See the size section of the Musicus Meter (5e Guideline)#Size. which specifies, "The Tiny Player Characters variant rule outlines in detail the benefits and detriments of playing a Tiny race. A tiny race generally has 20 feet movement or 10 feet if it has an alternative form of movement like flying or swimming that is greater then 20 feet." so they don't recieve a -4 for their movement speed. "Positive shouldn't be considered either" your arguements just seems misinformed up till this point if that was the case a +100 to all scores would be worth nothing and the Meter itself is based around rating traits against the impact of a single ability score imrpovement. Magic Resistance is worth 4.5, see Musicus Meter (5e Guideline)#Cunning.. A situational advantage against a common saving throw is worth 1 and a uncommon is worth 0.5 since there are 6 ability scores and 3 on each side the total score of advantage against the saving throws of all magical affects is worth 4.5. --ConcealedLight (talk) 11:40, 27 February 2018 (MST)

While we're at it, though, two things. A) Next time, explain what you mean and people will respond better. Don't just assume everyone, or anyone, is going to take you at your word. That's condescending and just plain rude. 2) The meter is only a good judge of what's standard. When you start throwing in non-standard and modified things, it quickly starts to break down. So I still disagree with your original rating. Even though you convinced me to modify some things, it was in spite of the meter, not because of it. Modify your approach to these things in the future or you're going to end up with more drama than anyone wants.--Busterwilde3 (talk) 11:00, 27 February 2018 (MST)
gollark: C has very weak types; stuff will arbitrarily be coerced into other stuff half the time, and it has no generics.
gollark: You're forgetting that Rust has somewhat more stuff going on than "safer C". It also ACTUALLY HAS A TYPE SYSTEM, unlike C.
gollark: Remote function calls, basically.
gollark: Does anyone else prefer RPC-type APIs over REST?
gollark: Remove the battery?
