Talk:Con Artist (3.5e Class)

Details?

Errr, is this meant to be a spontaneous caster or not? Personally, I think Spontaneus would be appropriate, give the school limitations, and the act that this character is designed to be a jack-of-all trades, which is the feel I'm getting.

It seems a little liek an arcane trickster taht's non-prestige, but I like the over-all feel of it. Much more likable and usable than the spell thief (Spel thieves tend to die a lot in my campaign experiences....)

I think it should be Spontaneus as well. Go ahead and change this so the next user knows, if you wouldn't mind. --Green Dragon 00:32, 13 February 2007 (MST)

Rating - 8/10

This class is kind of... mhh, somewhere between everything.

It's like a rogue with 6th level spells but weaker sneak attack, like a bard with sneak attack but without the music, like a beguiler with weaker spellcasting but with sneak attack, or like the arcane trickster but not a Prestige class. I don't know. There is already too much in that area that this class has problems to fit in, to be unique. When I read "Con Artist", I thought it would be more about social skills and/or Enchantment spells, but the Beguiler is better in that area. For a sneak attacker, I still prefer the Rogue. For a Rogue with spellcasting, there is still the Wizard/Rogue.

I do like the Hidden Pocket ability, though.

What I don't like:

  • NO Enchantment? Not even Charm Person? Really? Sure you didn't forget something?
  • Adaption: Getting extra class skills depending on an attribute modifier is a weird mechanic. The number of class skills should be fixed.
  • Con Artistry: A skill bonus? That's boring as a class special. An interesting new use for the skill would be better.

All in all, the Hidden Pocket is not enough to make me like the class.

Power Rating: Okay, 8/10. The class is fairly balanced. The problem is that it is not unique enough. --Mkill 08:33, 14 June 2007 (MDT)

If you would like to modify this class please do - it does not really have an author, it is more "made by the community". --Green Dragon 11:49, 14 June 2007 (MDT)
I agree with adding Enchantment spells, and have put that on the list. I hope no one minds this edit or that it throws off the balance of power. I am interested in this, would make a great social unit and if I focused on disarming, good support for fighters to handle the now weapon-less foe. -- Eiji 16:10, 10 August 2007 (MDT)
Feel free to modify it. Also, I will remove the rating once it is changed a little more; I feel that just adding Enchantment spells does not throw off the balance enough... --Green Dragon 21:22, 10 August 2007 (MDT)
This rating has been nullified with the implementation of the new Rating System. --Green Dragon 15:01, 20 February 2008 (MST)

Balance - 4/5 I give this class a 4 out of 5 because seems pretty well-balanced to me, but I can't give it a 5/5 because I keep waffling on whether it's slightly underpowered or slightly overpowered. Something about it seems a bit off that I can't put my finger on, but I'd still be willing to try playing it as-is. --71.55.198.150 10:03, 8 December 2014 (MST)

Wording - 4/5 I give this class a 4 out of 5 because there don't seem to be any outstanding spelling or grammar errors at all! The only thing that could use tweaking is that some of the Con Artist's special abilities that already exist, such as Quickdraw and Improved Disarm, could stand to be added to the Class Features list proper and described. --71.55.198.150 10:03, 8 December 2014 (MST)

Formatting - 4/5 I give this class a 4 out of 5 because the page is well-formatted (there just needs to be MORE of it!), it just doesn't seem to link to anything. --71.55.198.150 10:03, 8 December 2014 (MST)

Flavor - 1/5 I give this class a 1 out of 5 because there just isn't really anything being said about it at all. It only has four short sentences describing what it does in a game. It's also missing things like what alignments Con Artists lean to/can be, what gods Con Artists often worship, what races usually and rarely become Con Artists, etc. --71.55.198.150 10:03, 8 December 2014 (MST)

gollark: That's definitely true.
gollark: If you compare large supercomputers to my phone I think you might be about right.
gollark: Better *how*?
gollark: Oh, flash storage, that is a huge one.
gollark: ... which we *have had*, modern computers are better than 30-year-old ones.
