Talk:Black Lion (4e Class)

Talk

This class represents a balance between melee and ranged offense. You are not required to pick an emphasis such as two-weapon fighting or bow use. Many of their exploits can be used with a sword or a bow, so you do not need to pick which to specialize with.

The downside is that this class doesn't specialize in one type of combat. Meaning you will find that you use some of your powers rather infrequently. An archer with find little use for his "I'm surrounded" powers and a sword wielder with find little use for his "Run away" powers.

Since shields now grant a bonus toward Reflex defense in 4th edition, the Class Defense Bonus is now Fortitude based. --Jay Freedman 20:49, 1 November 2009 (MST)

  • This is way cool!!! I love your mix of martial and range, it ROCKS!!! --"shipmasterlt 13:09, 17 March 2012 (MDT)"

Powers

When I listed the class powers I made sure to describe the general use of each one. Such as, when the power should be used for maximum effect and what its general function during combat is. Which was pretty simple really, because Striker's generally just deal damage to one opponent. So no fancy gimmicks to explain. Haha. --Jay Freedman 21:29, 6 November 2009 (MST)

Lion's Mastery

Their is a feat called Scimitar's Dance which grants wisdom modifier damage on a missed attack. This is a pivotal feat for any blade wielding Striker who can met the prerequisites. Lion's Mastery mimics this feat but with no weapon requirement and a higher stat requirement. --Jay Freedman 00:15, 10 November 2009 (MST)

I should also note that this feature does not stack with Lion's Cunning. Lion's Cunning grants Wisdom modifier damage anytime you make a damage roll. As in, only when you are rolling dice. So you cannot deal Wisdom modifier damage twice on a missed attack. --Jay Freedman 00:27, 10 November 2009 (MST)
On second thought. This will become a feature for a paragon path. Nevermind. --Jay Freedman 19:02, 16 November 2009 (MST)

Stub

Added another build option and doubled the number of available powers. Stub template removed. Yeehaa. --Jay Freedman 19:02, 16 November 2009 (MST)

Versatility

Swapped Perseverance for Versatility. Now you can choose a Race without having to worry about the Stat bonuses. You can change your Dragonborn bonuses from +2 Strength and Charisma to +2 Strength and +2 Wisdom. Perfect for a sword wielding Black Lion. --Jay Freedman 03:41, 8 December 2009 (MST)

A quick question.

Hello, Jay. Are you planning to release a melee optimized build for the Black Lion class to complement the ranged one? Godric493

  • That is a very good question, but the answer is no. Sorry. --Jay Freedman 22:27, 20 September 2010 (MDT)

Update

Added link to the Optimized Build. Figured it would help a ton. Thanks. --Jay Freedman 22:27, 20 September 2010 (MDT)

good work ;)

I even used this class for inspiration while creating the Winglord, If you want to find it, just type it in the search box in the left column of this page ;)

Har har har. Nice self advertisement. You should be a Marketing Director. But, if you compliment was sincere and not just a vain attempt to get more pageviews... Than thanks, your the man! Woot woot! (shakes head at the lack of a signature) --Jay Freedman 19:55, 18 August 2011 (MDT)

Is this from something?

I'm not accusing you of copyright, but on this wiki I see a lot of classes that scream "I'm from final fantasy!" or "Copied from (insert novel series here)!". I only ask because I want to read/watch/play the game/book/movie this is from. If it is original, than by the Gods, am I a poor judge of character (pun not intended).

  • It is not 'from anything'. Sorry. I just wanted a Ranger Build that lost less DPS proficiency in Close Quarters Combat. Please remember to sign your posts. --Jay Freedman 21:25, 10 April 2012 (MDT)

How to Review and Give Feedback

Please write your reviews and criticisms on the articles talk pages. Do not write your reviews and criticisms on the articles main page in the form of a misused Template. This article conforms to all standards of completion. If it does not satisfy your 'taste' or fantasy 'opinion', please do not use slander or defamation as your outlet.

We highly value 'Constructive' criticism here on the Dand Wiki. I, the original creative concept author, highly value 'Constructive' criticism. However, we as a community do not value vandalism in any form. Thank you for your time. (formally addressing: ip 173.245.48.116.)

Integrity

When applying changes to an article, please note that it is considered polite to write a small summary of your changes and note your reasons and logic for doing so. Simply adding skills you fancy, or buffing the Hit Points given, simply because you want to? Is not enough reason for the community to accept your changes as valid and constructive in nature. It should also be noted that changes to the integrity of one article may have repercusions for other 'sister' articles as well. Such as advanced classes or optimized build pages. Please edit with perspective.

In short. When applying changes and editing an article, please be civilized and add a small summary of your changes on the talk page. Otherwise, your Anonyomous scribbling just looks like vandalism. Thank you for your time. (formally addressing edits by: Torrin Valor, Arshan273.)

Even though...

Even though I have yet to play 4th ed., I can easily understand this class. I like it a lot and would probably enjoy playing something similar.-- Irykyl 08:16, 11 April 2012 (MDT)

Thanks for the feedback. You rock. --Jay Freedman 00:18, 13 April 2012 (MDT)

How is this better than a Ranger?

It's not. The Hunter's Quarry feature of a Ranger allows for more damage every round than a Black Lion of equal level. However, many Ranger builds require a large number of feats to maximize your damage potential with their Hunter's Quarry Feature. A Black Lion is able to take feats in place of these slots and recover its damage potential with the Lead's Mastery Path Feature. Lead's Mastery grants Wisdom modifier damage even on a missed attack. Also, a Ranger has access to the Spitting Cobra Stance [MP], Daily Power. This grants free attacks against any closing enemy for the duration of an entire encounter. So if you want to maximize your DPR, then go with a Ranger Build. A Black Lion is simply easier to play, more accessible, and offers less stereotypical archer/elf experience. It's unique. Not better. I would like to use your class

Hi, name's Jason and I happen to cross your class. As this is late 2013 and I'm a beginner in D&D, I wanted to know if it's possible for me to use your class for my character. It seems to blend in just fine with the way I set up my character.

A bit more info into my character...

She is a Revenant Changeling with memories back to her past self as a Half-Elf. She has spent many years as a gladiator. The only things remaining with her is a spear gun which she somehow inherited from her past father, a manual on how to produce the bolts and maintaining the weapon's condition, and a journal containing tidbits of her life in a form of poems and stories.

Her weapons will consist of a tall, light shield, a heavy blade, and her spear gun. I can show you an image of her that my friend drew for me years back.

Anyways, is there a way for me to get in contact with you in terms of updating the terminology for all of your skills? I am interested in adopting your class for my character and bring in an amazing experience for my peers and for my DM as she allows your class to be played.

Best Regards,

Jason

The author of this class no longer frequents this site. Fixing this class has been on my to-do list for a long time. If you think you can help, then go right ahead and edit the pages. Marasmusine (talk) 01:58, 13 December 2013 (MST)

I'm laying claim to this page.

Since the original author has abandoned this class and hasn't addressed any issues (and left the site years ago), I'm laying claim to the page to improve and adjust the class. I resolved the lack of a striker feature years ago, I just wasn't sure if I was allowed to remove that being marked. I have now removed it, along with the abandoned marker. Direct all issues with the class to me, and I'll fix them. --MisterGunpowder 08:40, 1 June 2020 (PDT)
