Talk:5e Spell Preload

Suggested edit

The content page is locked from my edits. However, I thought the preload might be improved for new users (like me) so it's easier to understand at a glance, especially as there doesn't seem to be a separate guide for 5e spell creation. If you are able to edit the page itself and agree with these changes, please copy-paste them into the content page:

For the most part, I just listed numerous correctly-formatted options for each field. (E.g., "Evocation" is capitalized, and "cantrip" is listed instead of "0".) I listed all possible class breadcrumbs, which should make it easier to decide which classes should be able to access the spell without looking them all up separately. Finally, I moved </onlyinclude> to the end of the page, where I assume it belongs. Guy (talk | edits) 10:09, 1 March 2017 (MST)

The spell school is only listed in capitals for cantrips, not for spells of 1st level or higher, so lightning bolt is a 3rd-level evocation. Also, rituals are listed as such after the school, for example, detect magic is a 1st-level divination (ritual). SirSprinkles (talk) 16:14, 1 March 2017 (MST)
I did notice how rituals were listed or more specifically how the template is creating categories like "Category:Illusion (ritual)" instead of "Category:Illusion." I'm not sure how to fix that without messing up every existing 5e spell, though.
As for the other stuff, well, that's ideally why I think someone should edit the preload with such helpful information. Ideally it would be someone with more knowledge about it than me. Guy (talk | edits) 16:41, 1 March 2017 (MST)
I updated the preload to your wording which is much better. Would making a |ritual=y/n parameter possibly fix this problem? --Green Dragon (talk) 16:12, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for doing that. If you're referring to the ritual/categorization issue, that was already resolved. (There's a discussion about it here.) Ideally Marasmusine's minor edit to the page could be preserved in the latest version. That is, removing the current second-to-last line, and re-adding the ritual parameter as it was. - Guy (talk) 17:12, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
Great catch, thanks, and I should have noticed that the ritual parameter had been added. --Green Dragon (talk) 17:38, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
Since it's along the same lines as this discussion, I just want to direct your attention back to Template talk:5e Creature#Improving the template. --Green Dragon (talk) 09:58, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

The preload is missing the Cleric spells breadcrumb. — Geodude671 (talk | contribs)‎ . . 19:02, 9 July 2017 (MDT)

Fixed. Good catch. SirSprinkles (talk) 19:41, 9 July 2017 (MDT)

School Names

Each of the school names starts with a capital letter, but spells of 1st to 9th level should all have the school name start with a lowercase letter. SirSprinkles (talk) 16:46, 27 July 2017 (MDT)

Enchantment?

Hi, I noticed that under the comment markers next to the school line, although Abjuration, Conjuration, Divination, Evocation, Illusion, Necromancy, Transmutation are included as guidelines for what school a spell should belong to, the Enchantment school isn't. It would be nice and perhaps less misleading if it was there. Quincy (talk) 17:17, 11 October 2018 (MDT)

gollark: I was going to suggest Shadkov thrusters, but that would just move the entire solar system.
gollark: Fascinating.
gollark: There are fancier and possibly more accurate ways to explain this but I can't currently be bothered.
gollark: `x mod y` is just the remainder when `x` is divided by `y`.
gollark: While you're here, consider some x where x^2 mod 384 = 8.3. Continue considering it. This is NOT to distract you.
