Sword Dancer Domain (5e Subclass)

Sword Dancer Domain

Sword dancers are priestesses of Eilistraee, the Dark Maiden. They encourage drow to return to the surface and renounce their evil ways. Like followers of Sune, sword dancers consider art, song, and craft to be virtuous endeavors, and work toward better relations between drow and surface-dwelling races by providing aid and assisting hunters and travelers. Sword Dancers usually live together in small groups so that they can practice their swordplay and singing.

Most sword dancers are clerics, cleric/fighters, or cleric/bards.

Moonlit Emissary

At 1st level, you learn one bard cantrip of your choice. You also gain proficiency with the longsword and two of the following skills of your choice: Nature, Performance, Stealth, or Survival.

Sword Dancing

A sword dancer fights by forming a bond with their weapon, which then resonates with heroic songs. Traditionally, followers of Eilistraee bond with longswords, but any melee slashing weapon that lacks both the heavy and special properties can be chosen. The bonding ritual requires that the weapon be worn or held at all times for at least 8 hours, which can be done during a long rest. You may only be bonded in this fashion to one weapon at a time.

Wielding your bonded weapon while you are not wearing armor and not wielding a shield grants you the following benefits.

Artful Swing. When you attack with a melee weapon that lacks the heavy and special properties, you can use your Charisma modifier, instead of Strength or Dexterity, for the attack and damage rolls.

Unarmored Defense. Your AC equals 10 + your Dexterity modifier + your Wisdom modifier.

Wardancer. When you would make a Constitution saving throw to maintain concentration on a spell, you may instead roll a Charisma (Performance) check against the same DC.

Channel Divinity: Spellsong

Starting at 2nd level, you can use your Channel Divinity to weave a spell through the power of your voice alone.

You can cast a bard or cleric spell of 6th level or lower without expending a spell slot by using your Channel Divinity. The spell can be one that you do not have prepared, but it must be of a level for which you have spell slots. This spell does not require its somatic component if it has one and gains a verbal component if it does not already have one.

Swift Retribution

Starting at 6th level, if you are attacked by a creature you are aware of and can see that is within your reach and you have not made a weapon attack since the beginning your most recent turn (or since initiative was rolled if you have not had your turn yet), you can use your reaction to make a melee weapon attack against that creature. Your attack occurs immediately after theirs.

At 8th level, you may apply your Divine Strike to this attack even if it is not your turn.

Divine Strike

At 8th level, you gain the ability to infuse your weapon strikes with resonant energy. Once on each of your turns when you hit a creature with a weapon attack, you can cause the attack to deal an extra 1d8 divine or thunder damage (your choice) to the target. When you reach 14th level, the extra damage increases to 2d8.

Maiden's Sword

At 17th level, you can enhance your bonded weapon with your magic. You add magic weapon and elemental weapon to your list of prepared spells, and they do not count against the number of spells you can prepare each day. These spells can only target your bonded weapon, but they ignore the usual requirement that the weapon be nonmagical. If your bonded weapon already provides a bonus to attack rolls or damage rolls, use the higher value; the bonus from the spell or the bonus from the item.

Additionally, you can cast spiritual weapon at will without consuming a spell slot. The spiritual weapon has the appearance of your bonded weapon (or a longsword if you have none) and you can use either your Wisdom or Charisma modifier as your spellcasting ability modifier for this spell.
