Spellblade

Athainor hefted his blade, facing the charging blackguard. He swiftly gesgured with his hand, crimson fire bursting forth from his weapon's ivory guard. As his opponent's sword clashed with his own, the eldrich flames crawled upwards, engulfing the dark knight in a vermilion inferno.

A Spellblade is a skilled combatant who stands at the crossroad between mage and swordsman, constantly surprising her opponents with a variety of effects conducted through her blade.

Becoming a Spellblade

Characters aiming to become Spellblades are generally melee combatants who, through one mean or another, dabbled in the magical arts, and now wish to pursue this study mixing this newfound talent with their lifelong passion. The main trait of a Spellblade is their extraordinary Strength and Intelligence*, who come together to create their unique fighting style. Behind those follows their uncanny Constitution, granting them the necessary resilience required to withstand the brutality of a frontline battle. Finally, their Wisdom protects them from the malevolent influence of enemy spellcasters.

*It is important to note that not every Spellblade channel magical talent through their intellect, some may instead use another attribute.

Class Features

All the following are class features of the Spellblade:

Channeling Blade (Ex): At level 1, the Spellblade learns to channel spells through any melee weapon she is currently using, she may do so a number of times per day equal to her class level in spellblade + her intelligence score. Channeling a spell through a melee weapon is a free action. Only one spell may be channeled through a melee attack per turn. A channeled spell stays active within the weapon until discharged. Though a melee attack is required for the Spellblade to apply her spell unto an enemy, she needs merely to breach said enemy's touch AC to transfer the spell's effect, breaching the target's normal AC is still required in order to deal weapon damage.

Somatic Mastery (Ex): At level 1, the spellblade becomes able to cast any spells while holding a weapon without any penalties.

Consecutive Channeling (Ex): At level 2, and every two levels thereafter, a Spellblade's ability to channel magical energy through her blade expands, allowing her to channel one extra spell through a melee attack per turn, to a maximum of five times at level 10. In addition, she gains an extra use of Channeling Blade for each level of Consecutive Channeling.

Extra Feats (Ex): At levels 2, 6 and 10, the Spellblade gains extra feats at the respective levels indicated in Table: The Spellblade. If the feat requires her to choose a weapon to apply the feat to, she must choose a weapon she is proficient with, and she possesses the Weapon Focus for. Otherwise, she may take the feat even if she would ordinarily be unable to.

The feats she may select are as follow : Power Attack, Combat Casting, Weapon Specialization, Greater Weapon Focus, Greater Weapon Specialization

Metamagic Feats (Ex): At level 4 and 8, the Spellblade gains an extra metamagic feats of her choosing at the respective levels indicated in table: The Spellblade.

Spells per day : When a new spellblade level is gained the spellblade gains new spells per day as if she had also gained a level in a spellcasting class she belonged to before adding the prestige class. She does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained, except for an increased effective level of spellcasting. If a character had more than one spellcasting class before becoming an spellblade, she must decide to which class he adds the new level for purposes of determining spells per day.

gollark: FEAR the webring².
gollark: I'm sure Google has lots of spare GPU/TPU power. They have some ridiculous GPT-3-scale image/text model in development now, and use BERT-like entities for search parsing.
gollark: I'd think that it would be possible to detect it if you had a lot of samples of it versus real human text. And there was this demo highlighting differences between human and GPTous text, via highlighting low-probability-from-the-model words (which are often also the most important).
gollark: I wonder if Google/search engines generally can detect GPT-3ous content yet.
gollark: That sounds hard, actually.
