Smeargle (5e Race)

Smeargle

"Would you like me to paint? Art is an explosion of passion and talent!"
—Smeargle, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red/Blue Rescue Team

Physical Description

A happy Smeargle holding its tail.

With their tails in their three-digit hands, these bipedal, beagle-like pokemon paint symbols onto surfaces to mark their territory and to even express themselves. Their long tails end in fur that appears almost like a paintbrush that oozes a paint-like liquid which varies in color from Smeargle to Smeargle. The most common color observed, however, is green. Its fur is primarily white with brown stripes on its limbs, with 2 on its arms and one on its legs. Its floppy ears are also brown, as is the fur that outlines its eyes as well as the puffy fur around its neck. The fur on top of its head is shaped like a beret. On it's back is a paw print whose color matches the color of the paint on its tail.

Smeargles with different fur colors have been observed, the most common variant having yellowish fur with red paint oozing from the tail. While a Smeargle could ooze any color paint, the most commonly observed colors, aside from red and green, are blue, yellow and brown. While the color of paint a Smeargle will ooze is predetermined, the hue of the paint is determined by its mood.

History

Smeargles were first discovered roaming around the Ruins of Alph in the Johto region, but can be found almost anywhere. In the Hoenn region, Smeargles, who were believed to not reside on the tropical island, was discovered in a single cave. The cave was discovered near a facility known as the Battle Frontier, and was dubbed "Artisan Cave". Nearly 5,000 unique Smeargle symbols have been found.

These canine painters even have a cult following. Depending on the symbol a Smeargle paints, fanatics will pay top dollar for the painting. Because of this, Smeargles can be found mostly in towns and cities. Such places will often have walls covered in graffiti, which sometimes leads visitors, especially ones unfamiliar with Smeargles, to believe that it's the result of gang activity.

Society

Smeargles live in packs of varying number and can be found in fields, caves and in towns and cities. Regardless of where they live, you'll know you've found where they roam due to the symbols they paint. A strange quirk they have is, once they reach adulthood, they have a tendency to let their fellows paint symbols on it's back.
