Shadaks (3.5e Race)
The Shadaks
Personality
The Shadaks have never been very nice towards others. They live in their secluded mountaintops, living above others in their own mind. They usually hold challanges
Physical Description
The Shadak is a race of hunters and warriors and sure look like it. Every Shadak is big and strong, a height of seven feet not unusual and as they grow older they grow even further in size. They all adore a muscular body and on the side of their heads, great black horns spout like that of a Ram or a bull. Their skin is dark, living close to the sun atop the mountaintops. Their eyes are blackened by the smeer of the mountains and their hair blackened by the ashes left behind them.
Relations
The Shadak has never really liked others. They live mostly secluded from others atop the mountains. Those that come by are treated as strangers, but those who even threaten the Shadak are seen as mortal enemies and are struck down fast and furiously.
Alignment
The Shadak are usually Lawful Neutral or Lawful Evil as they live amongst themselves and most outsiders have shown hostility to their dark appearance, so they show the same to everyone else. They are without trouble amongst each other, however their villages are not flowers and rainbows as the fuse of a Shadak is short enough to make a whole town go mad should something arise.
Lands
The Shadak search towards the mountains, the place they can ride best with their dragons.
Passing
The Shadaks live in their mountains and die in battle or of illness. This is a fact accepted by every single one of them. The only other way of passing from this world is to ride your dragon, fleeing from the sun towards the horizon. In the distance, they believe they will get rest. This is not unusual among the Shadak who believe they have dishonored their people. Sometimes their own dragon might even take the decision for them and fly them away.
Religion
The Shadak follow no religion. They follow their history and what they know.
Language
The Shadaks know Common and Draconic. It's not unusual for them to speak the languages of the elements however, but they'd never come anywhere near speaking Sylvan as they despice the elves.
Names
The Shadaks usually have rather rough names, but there's no distinction between female and male names.
History
Everything in this chapter is considered fluff and can be disregarded for each different world.
Feast of the Flesh
The Shadaks have not always been mountaindwelling, dragonriding giants. They were once human. This is a long time ago, but their current lifestyle is one their ancestors chose. The Shadak were once part of a region of humans who lived on the side of a great mountain. They all knew that dragons lived on the mountain and no one dared venture up for a long time. One day however a young man by the name of Lucas Lorthim ventured suicidally up the mountains and saw the dragons. He ventured through the cliffs and walked over to the biggest one, hoping it would devour him, however it just looked at him, wondering why a human had gone to meet it. Lucas got his suicidal thoughts swapped with thoughts of wonder why the dragon hadn't killed him yet. He started talking to the creature and it looked like it understood him. Lucas knew not what to do, so he stayed. It was only a few days after when his hunger got the better of him that he left the dragons to eat.
From that day, he regularly visited the dragons, learning their lives and lived in amazement among them. The dragons adopted him and allowed him to live amongst them. Lucas however still ventured to his hometown, living his life their until he could take the misery of a life amongst humans no more and ventured up the mountain once more. This life he lived for a long time and he slowly grew to understand the dragons and them him. It was at this time that the elder dragon, the one whom he had originally tried to get eaten by, proposed an offer. The dragon allowed him to live the rest of his life with the dragons and a blessing from the elder dragon himself, however he had to tell the other humans of the peaceful nature of these dragons and the offer to join them.
Lucas got a few with him and got the blessing through the flesh of the elder dragon. They all transformed into something different from what they once were, however they could feel life within them. They turned greater than they once were and stronger than ever. Their transformation also brought with it knowledge of the tongue of draconic. The Elder dragon introduced himself as Shadak, the eldest of the Aeroliths. He had grown tired of his own life and wanted the humans to life theirs to the fullest, so he invited every human to feast upon his flesh so they might become stronger.
The transformed humans went down to their cities and preached the words, however a great deal of the humans were sceptic. A part of the humans joined them on the venture up the mountain to the dragons where Shadak rested, however the rest of the humans followed with weapons drawn as they didn't aprove of this transformation. They attacked on the way towards the fields of dragons, however the dragons helped those who were willing to join them and kept the rest of the humans back whilst they feasted on Shadak.
Radd'vol the Coward
The greatest disgrace to the Shadak people. His life was that of solitude and nothing else. He hunted when he needed the food, but there was no sport or honor in him. He was one of the Three of Old, the only three Shadaks who have died of old age. The way he got to this honor was not by defeating everyone attacking him, but rather to submit and just go with whatever happens to him. Stories are told of his failures in foreign countries and imprisonments to tell what happens to those that submit defeat. His dragon, Djit'sar, grew tired of him and flew off after the first one hundred and thirty years of their partnership, flying across the great sea without him. He died alone at the age of 2183 years. He is the only Shadak to not have gotten a burial as he was thrown at the human city of Trigorviste by two Great Wyrms and their riders.
Luk'tin the Caller
Luk'tin knew of the Aeroliths before most of the Shadaks. He was the one to venture furthest up the mountains and through the plains of dragons to talk to the elder dragon. Of course, they didn't understand eachother to start off, but Luk'tin gave his life to studying the dragons and their language. By the age of 53 he was capable of understanding the dragons well enough for them to carry on a conversation. Shadak, the great dragon was intrigued by this and gave the Luk'tin the offering of the Feast of the Flesh. He shared the knowledge with his city and most thought of him as mad, however a little group wanted to hear more and followed the old man to the mountains where he showed them that the dragons didn't touch him. He showed the people to Shadak and taught them of the ways of the dragon. He will forever be remembered for this fact.
