Serperiors are large, beautiful serpentine pokemon that are predominantly pale green in color with its back being a dark green color. On its back are yellow markings that look like filigree, and its tail curls with three leaves growing on it. its face and throat area are white, and curled mint-colored markings extend into its face with the same filigree markings as the ones on its back. Two pointed yellow extensions on the back of its head while coiled, dark green extensions spread out from the sides of its lower neck and form a curving pattern lower down the body. Just below the neck are two small leaves that can act as small hands. Lastly, its eyes are narrow and red in color.

Very rarely will a serperior be born with different coloring. Such serperiors are known to have lighter green parts instead of pale green, and their dark-green sections become a dark blue. In addition, the yellow markings on their body become more faded, and their already intimidating eyes become a bloodier shade of red.

History

Serperiors, along with their snivy and servine young, were first discovered in the forests on Unova and are almost exclusively found in that region. Serperior goes through a very strange development cycle as it grows up. When it starts out as a small snivy, it does not slither on its belly but walks on two short legs. Although it has hands, which look like leaves, it prefers to use its vine whips to manipulate things and attack. When it stays in the sun, it becomes more dexterous, so it often sunbathes and battles only when necessary. If it does not get enough sunlight, however, it may become sick and its tail, which usually stands upright, will droop. Their calm and collected attitude, as well as their half-open eyes, have earned them the name "Smugleaf" among admirers.

Once it has grown and absorbed enough sunlight, it will grow slightly taller and more leaves will sprout from its body. The snivy, having now grown into a servine, is still bipedal, but has taken a liking to slither on the ground, which it prefers to do instead of walking. such movement usually confuses its foes. Its usage of its vine whips has only gotten better, as it uses its newfound dexterity to make masterful strikes against attackers before slithering into the shadows to avoid further attacks. It always tries to keep itself clean because it cannot photosynthesize if its leaves are dirty.

After a decade and a half of slithering and photosynthesizing, the small bipedal serpent grows into a large, royal-looking serpent. Its legs have fused into its body, disappearing without a trace, and it fully relies on slithering on its belly to move around. These royal, almost arrogant looking pokemon refuse to give their all against an opponent unless the opponent in question is unfazed by its intimidating glare, which it gives when it raises its head above the challenger. This is because it only wishes to fight against truly strong opponents. While serperiors are not usually found in Alola, rumor has it a particularly strong serperior was seen on Exeggutor Island, though no one is sure why it would choose to live there. It is unknown if this serperior is connected to the chesnaught that has also been seen on the same island.

Interestingly, unlike most serpents which often give off a stench, serperiors give off a pleasant scent that is often said to be a mixture of flowers and freshly cut grass.

Society

Though often stereotyped as arrogant and smug, serperiors are actually quite nice most of the time and get along with most other races, only attack if they need to. This stereotype has given rise to the saying that someone who is ill-tempered yet prideful must think he's "seprerior" to everyone else. Serperiors will not hesitate to attack, however, if anyone destroys its territory, which it prefers to call its "Royal Garden". Because of their royal beauty, they are often thought of as the familiars of powerful fey spirits despite their innate lack of knowledge of the Sylvan language. While it may regard the other creatures that live in its "Royal Garden" as its subjects, you'd be hard pressed to find one that is demanding of them.

In human society, serperiors humbly recognize the authority of anyone who is above them and will work to keep the peace. They seem to prefer working with chesnaughts, who they will sometimes refer to as their personal "royal guard", though sometimes it's hard to tell if they're being serious or not when they call them that. Because of their alleged connection to the fey, it is rumored that if a serperior visits a garden, you will either have a bountiful harvest or your flowers and other flora will grow more healthy and stronger than usual. Unlike most serpents with give off a stench, serperiors give off a pleasant scent that is often said to be a mixture of flowers and freshly cut grass.

Serperior Names

Serperior names are usually Elven or Common and are predominantly masculine, although Serperior are not picky about the language of their name. This is because not only are female serperiors few in number, they will usually take the name of a famous member of the nobility of royalty regardless of race or language. For example, you may find a serperior living among surface elves that have a Drow name. This, needless to say, only adds to the stereotype of them being arrogant.
