School of Cerebremancy (5e Subclass)

Design Note: This content refers to playtest material in Unearthed Arcana: The Mystic Class.

School of Cerebremancy

Cerebremancers tap into the power of the mind as well as the mystic arts. They are adepts at plumbing the mysteries of the arcane and of exploring the internal secrets of psionics. Most cerebremancers tend to be ambitious, wanting access to the power of magic and psionics, rather than what they consider to be the tedious aspect of focusing on only a single source of power.

Telepathy

When you choose this arcane school at 2nd level, you gain telepathy with a range of 30 feet.

Psionic Talent

Also when you choose this arcane school at 2nd level, you learn one psionic talent from the mystic talent list. You learn another psionic talent at 14th level.

When you reach 4th level and again when you reach 10th level, instead of learning a wizard cantrip as shown on the Wizard table, you may learn an additional mystic talent instead, which counts against your cantrips known.

Psionic Discipline

At 2nd level, you learn one psionic discipline of your choice from the mystic discipline list. You learn an additional discipline at 6th, 10th, 14th, and 18th levels. When you gain a level in the Wizard class, you can choose one of the mystic disciplines you know and replace it with a different mystic discipline. Intelligence is your manifestation ability for these disciplines.

You have a number of psi points equal to twice your wizard level. You regain expended psi points when you finish a long rest.

As a bonus action, you can expend one of your spell slots to gain psi points equal to that slot's level. These psi points last until you use them or you finish a long rest.

You can focus psionic energy on one of your psionic disciplines to draw ongoing benefits from it. As a bonus action, you can choose one of your psionic disciplines and gain its psychic focus benefit, which is detailed in that discipline’s description. The benefit lasts until you are incapacitated or until you use another bonus action to choose a different focus benefit. You can have only one psychic focus benefit at a time, and using the psychic focus of one discipline doesn’t limit your ability to use other disciplines.

The psi limit for your cerebremancer disciplines is dependent on your wizard level, as shown on the table below.

Psionic Recovery

Starting at 6th level, when you use your Arcane Recovery class feature, you also gain psi points equal to your wizard level.

Thought Shield

Starting at 10th level, your thoughts can't be read by telepathy or other means unless you allow it. You also have resistance to psychic damage, and whenever a creature deals psychic damage to you, that creature takes the same amount of damage that you do.

Spectral Form

At 14th level, you gain the ability to become a ghostly figure of psionic energy. As an action, you can transform into a transparent, ghostly version of yourself. While in this form, you have resistance to all damage, move at half speed, and can pass through objects and creatures while moving but can't willingly end your movement in their spaces. The form lasts for 10 minutes or until you use an action to end it.

Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.
