Class Features

All of the following are class features of the Masochist.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Masochist are proficient with light armor but seldom use it as they like to be hit hard by enemies. Masochist are proficient with all simple weapons as well as one other weapon of their choice

Reverse: Upon receiving damage in a round, the Masochist has 3 rounds to make an attack in which half the damage he or she sustained is dealt to one target through a melee attack. Damage is based as if the Masochist had no damage reduction

Pain Aura: When hit for damage, not only does a fear aura appear to the Masochist's enemies (Will DC of 10+1/2 Damage received), but allies in this aura are immune to fear and gain +1 damage for every 2 levels of Masochist. Last 1 round.

Tough Body: At level 2 and every 3 levels after, the Masochist gets a bonus to his Constitution.

Adrenalin Rush: During this 3 round rush, the Masochist gains +6 str and +6 con. He may also move double his base speed without penalty. Afterwards, the effects are reversed for 3 rounds. At level 15, he/she no longer takes this 3 round penalty.

Greater Reverse: The Masochist can now produce healing instead of damage as their reverse. This is still only half the damage sustained and can be used on any creature within melee range, as well as on the Masochist himself/herself.

Pain Focus: 3 times a day the Masochist can use damage received as a bonus to their next skill check. Time between damage and the check must be fewer than x minutes, in which x equals the Masochist's level.

Resistance: Each level of resistance gained grants the Masochist the ability to shrug off half of one type of damage of his or her choice. This choice is permanent. The Masochist may not choose normal damage or non-elemental magic damage.

True Reverse: Only with damage (not healing) the Masochist may return 100% of the damage received from one round to one target on his very next turn.

Ultimate Suffering: Once per day, the Masochist can take the damage received over the last round and focus it into one powerful attack dealing it all back to one creature. If the creature is unable to make a fortitude save of 10+1/2 the damage dealt, it is killed. Does not work on creatures unaffected by critical hits.

Ex-Masochists

Any Masochist who no longer derives pleasure from his pain will no longer gain powers from his pain. An attempt to dodge a blow or flee from an immediate encounter will bar a Masochist from attaining further levels and using pain related powers until he or she is tortured till unconscious.

Playing a Masochist

Religion: Masochists generally worship the same gods as the majority of their race, but there is no defined Masochist religion

Other Classes: The Masochist best relates with the Barbarian and the Monk, as they do not hide from pain. Classes wearing armor such as clerics and fighters, or those who stay behind the front lines such as wizards and sorcerers are viewed as weak or fearful to the Masochist. Masochists' view towards druids, rangers, bards, and rogues depend on how they act in combat.

Combat: The Masochist is the one who rushes in first to take and deal heavy blows with his/her enemy.

Advancement: Masochists go to where the battle is and are often wanderers. A Masochist that is either a Human or a Half-Orc does not count his Masochist class levels when accounting for multi-classing.

Masochists in the World

Hit me, I dare you...
—Scorched, Human Masochist

Daily Life: Masochist go looking for punishment whenever they have time. They are often in the depths of dungeons trading blows with great monsters. Similar to some monks, they often strike themselves. However, unlike these monks, it serves little constructive purpose.

Notables: Scorched was a Human Wizard who, after a terrible accident with fire magic, discovered his lust for pain and gave up wizardry. He grew strong and was finally killed, mid-orgasm, in the teeth of a Great Wyrm Copper Dragon.

Organizations: Have you ever seen the movie Fight Club? Yea...

NPC Reactions: NPCs often fear Masochist as they do not understand their obsession with pain.

Masochist Lore

Characters with ranks in Knowledge (History) can research Masochists to learn more about them. When a character makes a skill check, read or paraphrase the following, including information from lower DCs.

Knowledge (History)
DCResult
5Masochist enjoy pain.
10The harder you hit a Masochist, the harder he hits back.
15Masochist are capable of scaring many opponents away from sheer toughness.
20One hit from a powerful Masochist can kill instantly. Can also get specific information on particular Masochists.

Masochists in the Game

Masochist are meat shields as well as big damage dealers in a group. Their pain aura also offers good support to those close to him.

Adaptation: Monk-like Masochist may also exist, as opposed to the crazed Barbarian-like variety described above. But a Masochist may come from any background, as it is mostly random as to who finds pain this pleasurable.

gollark: Right now I don't think it offers significant *feature* improvements over mediawiki, but I have some neat ideas MW cannot practically do.
gollark: Don't use that. It makes them host HTTP for your domain and send 301 redirects to somewhere else.
gollark: - good contextual backlinks- small code base, can actually be read, also lightweight- simple Markdown support instead of horrible, *horrible* custom wikitext implementation- cooler login page- single user design
gollark: It's good because it has cool features, not too much code, and a fairly nice UI.
