SRD Talk:Light
Descriptor
I read "one with the light descriptor" at the end of the description. What does it mean ? what is light descriptor ? same with "Darkness descriptor" --Fotte 16:21, 30 January 2009 (MST)
- Evocation [Light] - the bold is the descriptor. "School [Descriptor]" --Sabre070 18:08, 30 January 2009 (MST)
Technicalities
I was DM'ing a game where it was one adventure group (players) versus another (npcs). One of the players said they cast Light on the bridge of the barbarian's nose (obviously an npc). I was a little taken aback, so I just went with it and said the barbarian was blinded.
My basic question is what are the limits of Light? The spell description nudges the idea of an improvised, albeit magical, torch, but could this spell have other uses like the example above?
- Creatures don't count as objects, so that doesn't work. Surgo 14:02, 7 May 2009 (MDT)
- More than that, this is a cantrip. Cantrips are purposefully weak. The cantrip that already does this is flare. So no, strictly by the rules, that won't work. The spell is also described as creating a light as bright as a torch. That's not bright. However, should you want to make light/flare the same things, go for it. It's only a cantrip. You are the DM. Your judgement is the right one.--Dmilewski 17:58, 7 May 2009 (MDT)
gollark: It seems ridiculous that the casing doesn't help at all.
gollark: Er, you're losing power.
gollark: Also, you should consider a more efficient network architecture?
gollark: What's "here"?
gollark: Anything balanced with stupidly large RF numbers is not.
