The Major Religions on Asleica

Many mortals on the great southern continent are polytheistic, honoring deities of their own while acknowledging pantheons of other cultures. Individuals pay homage to various gods, regardless of alignment. For example a person might propitiate Myzaos before setting out to sea, join a communal feast to celebrate Eses at harvest time, and pray to Kedi before going hunting.


The Noramith

The Noramitian religion is the most widespread form of worship in all of Asleica. This pantheon of deities can be split into two seperate and competing families; The Vesir, who are the gods of nature and the older generation of the Noramith, and the Dansir, children of the Vesir who are the deities of civilization. Worship of the Noramith has endured for thousands of years, even before the Dwarves began recording history, making it the oldest form of practiced religion on Asleica. According to legend, it was the two primordial beings, Solsine and Divernia, who were the creators of our world. Floating in the vast dark expanse of the void, the two lovers sacrificed themselves to create a safe haven for their children, whom Divernia was pregnant with. In death Solsine became the sun, a burning beacon of warmth and passion. Divernia became the earth itself, and from her body sprouted the Syeliez, or the World tree. Syeliez grew fantastically high, its uppermost branches reaching for Solsine, as a lover would reach to touch the loved. Syeliez’s roots grew steadily downwards, until they touched the ice cold waters of the primordial ocean, which sustains Syeliez to this day. While many individuals worship either the Vesir or the Dansir, Solsine and Divernia, are universally recognized as the mother and father of the mortal realm, and their sacrifice is often celebrated in festivals yearly. Worship of either divine family can be split between regions. Worshipers of the Vesir are mainly found in the Southern areas, where nature is wilder and more dangerous, whereas the Dansir are more reviered in the North

The Vesir

Soon after their parents sacrificed themselves to create a safe haven, the Vesir, the sons and daughters of Solsine and Divernia emerged from the trunk of Syeliez, and populated Divernia. Thus the mortal plane was created, and for thousands of years, Divernia was a sanctuary for the Vesir, who shaped the world in their own image, creating the mountains, the oceans and the great plains. Some enterprising Vesir began experimented with life, populating the world with the animals and monsters that we see today. It was a union between Syev and Xugarf that created the first of the Orcs on the great southern continent of Asleica. After the Vesir’s control of Asleica was usurped by their children, the Dansir, the Vesir placed themselves in self imposed exile, and spread out into the branches and roots of Syeliez, and created new planar realms and creatures of their own. While no longer on Asleica, the Vesir still maintains a certain amount of control on the mortal realm. While not powerful enough to reshape the world in their own image as they did back during pre history, deities like Myzaos and Catreus still have the ability to summon great storms and Jouna and Zavda still greatly influence the lives of mortals. The Vesir are mainly worshiped by the Orcish race, however they are revered by those whose life or profession takes them deep into the Asleican wilderness, many nomadic human and wood elf clans worship Jouna, while many sailors make sacrifices to appease Myzaos in the hope that he will keep the seas flat and their journey safe.

Jouna is the goddess of the wilderlands and is one of the oldest and most prominent deities worshipped on Asleica. Disinterested by the wider conflicts between the Vesir and Dansir, Jouna seeks to maintain a balance between the many aspects of life, keeping in check drought with rain, ice with fire, life with death. Her worshipers protect places of nature from the encroachment of civilization with vigor and are implacable foes of industrious peoples. There are many shrines dedicated to Jouna in the wilder regions of Asleica.

Myzaos, Lord of the SeasChaotic NeutralTempest

Myzaos is lord of the oceans and encourages all towards lives of freedom from restrictions. He is not always a kind deity, just as the sea is not always kind, but those who follow him gain the power to resist those who would wrongfully hold them or others down.
