Raelyn

Our children have suffered long enough, let us end this war and work together to rebuild our world which we share. For the sake of those we have lost and for those we might be able to save.
—Raelyn, Book 2, Raelyn Queen

Physical Description

Raelyn are half-human/half-dragon humanoids with scales covering small portions of their body (Namely Arms, Legs and some of the torso and back), horns on the sides of their heads that act as their ears and either point forward or backwards and a tail. The way the horn is facing plays a part in what that raelyn is capable up, raelyn with horns pointing backwards have a higher sense of hearing than any other race, able to hear sub-sonic sounds. Raelyn with forward-pointing horns are physically stronger than most races and can even use their horns in combat in creative ways.

Au Ra from Final Fantasy XIV, AquaArtworks, Placeholder, Can't draw what the race actually looks like so I'm using this as a place holder until I can.

History

The raelyn were born from a human father and dragon mother. The human father was a normal adventurer that fell in love with the dragon, the dragon mother was no ordinary dragon. She was a Keeper, she was possessed of two souls, the dominant soul was her own, but the second soul was the entity of a dark being she imprisoned within herself to prevent it from destroying the world. The dragon used magic to transform into a human so that she might live with the human, when their first child was born they noticed that the child developed scales, horns and a tail as she grew. This was the first raelyn and when she became an adult, they noticed that when she became genuinely angered, a dark aura would envelop her as her scales spread, her teeth sharpened to a point, her hair turned white and her eyes blood red. An overwhelming urge to kill everyone and everything around overcame her, she even went so far as to try and kill her own mother. The mother quickly overpowered her daughter and she reverted back to normal, after thorough examination, they discovered that a piece of the dark being's soul was transferred to the daughter. However, the mother also detected the presence of a piece of her own soul in her daughter as well. These raelyn who are born with 3 souls later became known as priestesses as they are all females. Priestesses possess the power to quell the darkness within other raelyn which makes them the most powerful people politically among their race.

As time went on, the raelyn became more than just a single child, but an entire species as cities, towns and villages were created by the raelyn so they could have their own society. Overtime, the raelyn became the fourth most common race in the world, but because of their second soul, all Raelyn are scorned and turned away by the other races. In time, the other races banded together to try and destroy the raelyn, fearing their power of destruction which later became known as "The War of Extermination". The raelyn retaliated and held their own for 2 years. During that time, the raelyn learned how to unleash the power of the darkness within them without succumbing to it. The raelyn who could control their darkness became known as the Dark Knights, warriors with heavy armor and weapons that can use magic to enhance their physical abilities and attack from a distance. At the same the raelyn also learned how to use their dragon's blood to enhance their strength, these warriors became known as the Dragoons. The raelyn and alliance forces both suffered extensive casualties, but were on equal grounds. While they were in a stalemate, the raelyn queen requested to speak with the alliance leaders in an effort to negotiate an end to hostilities between the raelyn and the other races. Negotiations proceeded for 3 days before they reached an agreement, the raelyn would help the other races rebuild the towns that were destroyed during the war and were accepted into the alliance of races. Now the raelyn serve as protectors or act as intermediaries to make sure peace between races can continue.

Society

The raelyn are all lead by a queen who is a priestess, but each town and city are governed by their own individual rulers, the villages all elect a single person, the strongest raelyn among them, to be their chief. Most raelyn prefer not to fight out of fear of their darkness taking over, that does not mean that all raelyn don't like to fight. Raelyn towns and cities are often in the mountains, but they welcome outsiders for trade. Villages are built in the forests and rarely accept outsiders unless it is another raelyn. Most races still look down on raelyn so their villages tend to get targeted more often than not by bandits and raiders. Village-born Raelyn grow up learning to fight and hunt in order to survive, so they make up the bulk of Raelyn warriors.

Raelyn Names

Raelyn names each have a deep meaning behind them and are considered to be very precious and a point of honor among warriors. The most common trait among Male names is they mostly start with Q (Usually pronouncing Key), Qun (Kun), or Qon (Kon) and female names usually start with X or Sh (Both pronounced the same). However, it is not unheard of for another person from a different race to adopt a raelyn and give them a name from their own species.
