Pyromancer (5e Subclass)

School of Pyromancy

The School of Pyromancy subclass is available to wizards at 2nd level.

Most wizards take interest in one of the base schools of magic, learning and pushing the limits of what that style of magic can achieve. Pyromancers however, are mesmerized by the flicker of arcane flame, and want to learn all there is to know about magic involving that element, regardless of its school of origin.

Pyromancy Savant

Beginning when you select this school at 2nd level, the gold and time you must spend to copy an evocation or conjuration spell that may deal fire damage into your spellbook is halved. You may also copy evocation or conjuration spells that can deal fire damage from scrolls and other spellbooks even if the spell isn't available to your class. You must be able to cast spells of that spell's level to learn and copy it. Once copied, it counts as a wizard spell and uses Intelligence as its casting modifier.

Ricochet

Starting at 6th level, when you critically strike using a ranged spell attack that deals fire damage, you may select another target within the remaining range of the spell to ricochet the spell to. Make an attack roll against the new target with a penalty equal to the spell's level to deal the spell's damage to them as well. If a ricochet also strikes critically, this process can be repeated for an additional penalty equal to the spell's level for each target beyond the first. Use one damage roll for all targets but only double the damage to those that were struck critically.

Controlled Flame

At 10th level, you learn to control your conjured flames with greater precision. When you deal fire damage with a spell that affects other creatures that you can see, you can choose a number of them equal to 1 + the spell’s level. The chosen creatures automatically succeed on their saving throws against the spell, and they take no damage if they would normally take half damage on a successful save.

Effortless Pyromancy

When you reach 14th level, you have become so accustomed to twisting arcane energy into flames that it becomes effortless. When you cast a spell that involves a spell attack to deal fire damage, it may consume a spell slot 1 level lower than the level at which it was cast. You must have a remaining spell slot of the level being consumed, and this does not allow you to cast it at a higher level than you are able, only what slot level is consumed by casting it.
