Precious Metal Caster

Money makes the world go round. This is the motto of most theives, liars, criminals, even some government officials. They force money from people, rob people or shark it from them.

Becoming a Precious Metal Caster

Precious Metal Casters bring a new meaning to this motto. They are channelers of their own gree,d, using it to fuel their spells and use it to change the world, for better or worse. When they are finished with the metals, however, they are usually worthless, black lumps of useless rock. Though the magic is powerful, the price is high...

Entry Requirements
Alignment: Any chaotic.
Race: There is no limit to who could possibly be a Precious Metal Caster in terms of race, thogh more often than not, you could see a greedy little halfling taking some pointers from this class. Though a feirce creature to get this power would be a dragon, drawing his power from his own hoard.
Skills: Appraise rank (4), Spellcraft rank (8).
Feats: Any two metamagic feats.
Spellcasting: Able to spontaneously cast 3rd level arcane spells.
Religion: Your basic Precious Metal Caster doesn't usually have a god that they worship. But then again, those who strive in the path of divinity at the same time of being a PMC is usually a follower of Ollidamara (Or whatever other god of greed and theiving and gold you have). PMC's just take it to the point where it might be considered unhealthy in a normal society. Despite this most PMC's are well liked. They make friends quickly and enemies just as quick, if not quicker.

The Precious Metal Caster is profiecent with simple weapons. They are not profiecent with armor or shields. A Metal Caster usually has a a staff at hand, but finds that armor is usually too heavy for even the simplist of evocations.

Class Features

Gold's Curse: - If the PMC see's a source of gold equal to (50gp x [class level+ Wis Mod]), then he must make a Will save (DC 15+1/100gp) or the Gold's Curse comes into effect. When it does, the PMC will do anything in his power to obtain that gold. He will cast his most powerful magic, abilities; even kill for the gold in question. This only happens in sight of gold. Other forms of currency do not activate this curse. With the gaining of the Gold's Curse ability, when you would go up a level, you MUST level up as a PMC until you reach 10th level.

Precious Metal Empowerment: - A number of times per day equal to 3+Cha Modifier, the PMC may invoke the energies within the precious metals to increase one of his physical abilities (Str, Con, Dex) for 1d6+Cha Mod rounds.

Copper - At 2nd level, a PMC may use copper. For each 500cp used, the PMC may increase an ability by 1 for a number of rounds equal to the class level + Cha Mod.

Silver - At 5th level, a PMC may use silver. For each 250sp used, the PMC may increase an ability by 1 for a number of rounds equal to the class level + Cha Mod.

Gold - At 8th level, a PMC may use gold. For a solid 100gp, the PMC may increase one of his physical ability scores as though bull's strength, bear's endurance or cat's grace had been cast on him as the spell, except that they last a number of rounds equal the class level + Cha Mod.

No two precious metals can stack. You cannot use silver to increase Str and then Copper to increase Dex or any other mixtures of the three. There is no platinum because the energies in platinum would be too much for even the most powerful of spell casters.

Precious Metal Focus: - When using a metamagic feat to power a spell, the PMC may choose to spend money instead of increasing the level of the spell. Copper pieces increase the 1st and second level spells, silver increases 3rd, 4th and 5th, gold increases 6th, 7th and 8th. Once the spell is complete, the precious metal spent for the spell turns into unburning lumps of coal, becoming useless.

Copper - For each spell level increased, the spell uses the original spell slot and 50cp/level the spell would be increased. For example, Blackheart Valentine is going to use a empowered magic missile. As well as spending the first level spell slot for the spell, he must also pay 50cp for the empowerment spell. If he wishes to maximize it, he'd spend 150cp (Maximize increases it by 3. 3 x 50 = 150cp).

Silver - For each spell level increased, the spell uses the original spell slot and 100sp/ level the spell would be increased.

Gold - For each spell level increased, the spell uses the original spell slot and 200gp/ level of the spell would be increased.

The spell cannot be increased past 9th level through the use of metamagic feats with this ability. You cannot use equivalent amount of other precious metals, items or currency to fuel the metamagic feat. Example; you cannot spend 15 silver pieces instead of 150 copper pieces.

10th Level

Platinum Piece Curse: - At this level, PMC's get a rather unusual curse. They are unable to cast 9th level spells without turning 500 PP into useless lumps of unburnable coal. However, the use of this curse is not without some miniscule chance of merit. Each time you cast a 9th level spell, there is a cumulative 1% chance of creating a diamond worth 1000gp.

gollark: Some classrooms have no/broken WiFi coverage for no apparent reason despite sometimes having access points *in them*, which is a problem since because something something COVID-19 teachers got laptops instead of using the NUCs in the classrooms.
gollark: Oh, and there seems to be an issue storing preferences so Edge will ask you to set it up again on every login.
