Pokémon (5e Sourcebook)/Chapter 1: Classes

First if you haven't already read the rule on Classes, then read it.

Pokemon Trainer

All people start as a Pokemon Trainer, this is the most basic class out there, however once you get a feel for Pokemon, you may choose another class later on.

This is the most basic occupation out there. At the age of ten years old, children are allowed to obtain their Trainer’s Licenses and begin training their own Pokemon. Pokemon Trainers seek to capture and help their Pokemon grow stronger through battle and other means of Training. These individuals value strength and determination. Being a Pokemon Trainer often opens up paths to many other occupations as time marches on.

Feature: Basic Start

Gym Leader

Requires: Gym Leader Feat

Pokemon Trainers who have proven their worth in a Pokemon League may have the opportunity to become a Gym Member. These individuals have a very narrow and focused view on Pokemon training, which they exemplify through their training techniques and battle style. Gyms often have a specific theme, be it a specific type or some other common trend. Gym Leaders are extremely talented and strong, and are often very wise as well.

The features you get below are based off of your rank in your chosen gym: When you choose Gym Leader at level 3, you gain a number of d4 damage dice equal to your wisdom modifier. Whenever you make an attack or damage roll, you can roll 1 damage die and add it to the result. At level 6, your dice become d6s. At level 11, they become d8s, and at level 17, they become d10s.

Master tactician At level 11, you become an expert in knowing when and how to switch your Pokémon in the heat of battle. You gain the ability to withdraw one Pokémon from battle and summon a new Pokémon into battle with a bonus action.

Understanding through combat Having fought beside your Pokémon for so long has given you a critical understanding of how they fight. When you reach level 15, you can see openings in your opponent's armour. When your Pokémon roll a 19 on a dice, you can use your reaction to turn this into a critical hit and grant another attack to that Pokémon or another Pokémon on your side if fighting with more than one Pokémon.

Feature: Income Increase Increased income for battling opponents in chosen city. (Income increase is decided by DM)

PokeRanger

Requires: Ranger Feat

Pokemon Rangers are a select group of individuals who work tirelessly to protect Pokemon in the wild from Poachers or others that would wrongly do them harm. Pokemon Rangers have a single Pokemon partner and the ability to befriend nearly any Pokemon in the wild with proper training. However, after asking for the aid of wild Pokemon, Rangers will always allow those Pokemon to return to their naturally wild state.

Breeder

Requires: Breeder Feat

Pokemon breeders are those individuals who look to produce and raise the Pokemon with the absolute best potential. They work to create Pokemon with beautiful coats, intense power, and even special moves. Pokemon breeders have an understanding of Pokemon that goes much deeper than that of an average trainer. They don’t focus on a few Pokemon to make stronger, but instead desire a deep knowledge of Pokemon, sometimes a select few and sometimes as many as possible. Breeders understand the quirks of Pokemon better than anyone else.

Loyal to a Fault When your Pokémon reaches level 7, its love for you is so strong that it has the power some effects. Your Pokémon is immune to being charmed.

Pokémon Groomer At level 11, your Pokémon are so well cared for that they gain a permanent bonus to their health. Your Pokémon gain a bonus to their max hit points equal to their proficency modifier. When thier modifier increases, so does their hit points.

Best of the Breed At level 15, your Pokémon are a cut above the majority of their species. Each of the Pokémon in your possession when you gain this trait gains either a +2 to one ability or +1 to two abilities.

Pokémon Professor

To a Pokémon Professor, the ultimate aim of being a Trainer is to learn as much about Pokémon as they possibly can.

Master of evolution At level 7, you are an expert in helping Pokémon to get the experience that they need. Whenever one of your Pokémon gains experience, you can grant any Pokémon in your party an equal number of experience points.

Quick thinking At level 11, you have studied Pokémon and their habits extensively and are often able to predict the behaviour of Pokémon, even those that aren’t yours. In battle, you add your proficency modifier to your Pokemon’s initiative. When your opponent makes an attack that requires you to make a dexterity saving throw, you can use your reaction to call out to your Pokémon, giving them advantage on the check.

Synergy of the Professor At 15th level, you and your Pokémon function perfectly together. Whenever your Pokémon makes a roll of any sort, you can add your Wisdom or Intelligence modifier (choose one when you gain this trait) to that roll.

Specialty Trainer

Requires Specialty Feat

Pokemon Specialty Trainers focus on one Type of pokemon. They learn all of their strengths and weaknesses. They train their pokemon very hard to overcome their shortcomings and improve on their strengths. Specialty trainers have a knack for beating super-effective type opponents.

Coordinator

Requires: Coordinator Feat

Pokemon Coordinators focus on Pokemon contests. Like Trainers, they work with a selected team of Pokemon and also want their Pokemon to be strong, but instead of focusing on conquering as many opponents as they can through their strength, Coordinators want their Pokemon to look especially good while battling. A Pokemon contest becomes almost like a magnificent dance, and good Coordinators work seamlessly with their Pokemon in a very pleasing-to-watch manner.

Nutritionist

Requires: Nutritionist Feat

"Pokemon Nutritionists focus on creating supplements and foods for Pokemon to provide them with the best nutrition possible. They create supplements like Proteins and Carbos for Pokemon, as well as other sorts of nutritional foods. Some Pokemon Nutritionists work solely on making Poffins or Pokeblocks, while others focus on creating unique recipes of food for each species of Pokemon. (You wouldn’t want to feed your Butterfree the same food as your Cranidos, after all.)"
