Spellcasting

When you reach 3rd level, you augment your martial prowess with the ability to cast spells. You gain access to the Druid, Ranger, and Wizard spell lists.

Cantrips

You learn two cantrips of your choice from the Druid and Wizard spell lists. You learn an additional cantrip at 10th level.

Spell Slots

The Rage Caster Spellcasting table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your spells of 1st level and higher. To cast one of these spells, you must expend a slot of the spell’s level or higher. You regain all expended spell slots when you finish a long rest.

For example, if you know the 1st-level spell Shield and have a 1st-level and a 2nd-level spell slot available, you can cast Shield using either slot.

Spells known of 1st-level and Higher

You know three 1st-level spells of your choice from your chosen spell list, which you must choose from the abjuration and evocation spells on your spell lists.

The Spells Known column of the Rage Mage Spellcasting table shows when you learn more spells of 1st level or higher. Each of these spells must be an abjuration or evocation spell of your choice, and must be of a level for which you have spell slots. For instance, when you reach 7th level in this class, you can learn one new spell of 1st or 2nd level.

Whenever you gain a level in this class, you can replace one of the spells you know with another spell of your choice from the same spell list. The new spell must be of a level for which you have spell slots, and it must be an abjuration or evocation spell.

Spellcasting Ability

Your spellcasting ability for your spells is Wisdom

Spell save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + Wisdom modifier

Spell attack modifier = your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier

Spell Rage

Beginning at 3rd level, you learn to tap into your natural anger to channel arcane power. You can cast and concentrate on spells while raging, as long as the spell's casting time is no more than an action, and you can perform the somatic components of spells even when you have weapons or a shield in one or both hands. Additionally, your learning to reconcile your inner fury with your arcane might gives you the following benefits while raging:

  • You can add your Rage Damage bonus to one damage roll of any spell you cast.
  • You have advantage on Constitution saving throws that you make to maintain your concentration on a spell when you take damage.
  • You can use any weapon in your hand, a shield, or your clenched fist as a spellcasting focus.

Reckless Spellcasting

Starting at 6th level, when you cast a spell that forces a creature make a saving throw, you can choose to cast recklessly. Doing so imposes disadvantage on any saving throw it makes against the spell this turn, but you have disadvantage on all saving throws against spells and other magical effects until the beginning of your next turn.

Brutal Spellcasting

Beginning at 10th level, your Brutal Critical feature also affects your spell attacks, using the spell's damage die in place of your weapon's damage die. Additionally, if you cast a spell that forces another creature to make a saving throw, and the creature rolls a 1 on its saving throw, it counts as a critical hit with a spell attack for the sake of your Brutal Critical feature.

Arcane Outburst

Starting at 14th level, when you cast a spell that deals damage, you can deal maximum damage with that spell while you are raging. You can use this ability only once per rage.
