Naga (3.5e Race)

Naga

Personality

Prideful and strong, the Naga are a race of aquatic serpentfolk. They love and respect all forms of architecture, most likely a genetic love from older and most likely now long deceased species of serpentfolk that would coil around the pillars and such. Also, Naga love and treasure all forms of precious gems, however, only if they are rounded, and tend to wear much of their cultivated pearls for show, yet will sell them along their travels. The similarities between male and female, however, ends there. Males, with their hulking bodies and wide frames have a more dominate mindset, believing that the control of territory, show of power and domination, and force are driving factors for supremacy in their colonies. Females, on the other hand, are more docile and kind, using wits and knowledge to lead their colonies.

Physical Description

As a serpentfolk race, Naga have the lower bodies of serpents. Their scales range from a pure blue color, to a mossy green. With strong, powerful tails, ending in a large tail fin, they have little to no trouble swimming. Along their back and up their spine is a thin, dorsal fin that, while aiding in their swimming, is mainly for show of power, as a male's dorsal fin can fold or unfold at will and will rise up when they are fighting for dominance, in anger, or in fear. Their upper body is that of a humanoid, yet covered in soft scales that mimic skin.

Males have broad muscles and powerful builds. Their bodies are bred for combat, and trained in combat for years. As such, they tend to have scars along their scales, or have pieces of their dorsal or tail fin ripped or torn off. Towards the crown of their head, falls down long, thin, needle-like scales that act as hair, and is just as flexible and manageable as human hair. Their faces also resemble a snanke's face more than a human's face, with large, pronounced jaws and sharp, needle-like teeth, slitted eyes, lack of nose and lack of ears.

Females, however, are much more thinner and frail than their male counterparts. Their bodies are much more flexible compared to the males, with follow along the same physical structure of the male, albeit the muscles, scales, and damaged fin tissue. Their faces resemble a human's face much more clearly, with a defined nose, lips, a row of flat teeth. Their 'hair' falls in layers of very vibrant and colorful tissue, the same of their dorsal and tail fins.

The Naga live quite a long time due to their lifestyle. Many believe that due to their constant interaction with different races, they pick up countless amounts of illness and disease. With their bodies adapting to it, they have undergone many ways to avoid sickness, sometimes involving secretion of bacteria and virus infected fluids, excreting wastes in the same manner of their the secretions, or spitting bile.

Relations

The Naga get along well with most aquatic races, and as well of races of people that thrive near oceans, rivers and the such. Yet despite their ties to the water, a majority of the Naga tend not to associate much with pirates and the such. Also, due to the nature of the Naga, they tend to be wary of races that live away from water sources that aren't deep enough to support basic aquatic transportation, or even small streams and brooks. And finally, due to them having absolutely no knowledge on deserts and thick forests, Naga tend to look at people from those regions with extreme caution.

Alignment

The Naga can be of any alignment, but they tend to adapt to the natural hostilities or kinship of their nearby cities. And as such, once a city of Naga have had their general idea of a race, ideal, or the likes, they tend to stick to that mindset for quiet some time.

Lands

The Naga live anywhere there is running water, be it the sea or near large rivers. When Naga find a coastal range that contains underwater caverns, ruins, or the likes, Naga tend to flock to these areas and create their above water and submerged cities. Along the lands of the submerged cities, the Naga have farms dedicated to the cultivating and harvesting of pearls for clothing and sale. Their submerged homes are built of colorful corals, and their above water houses are made from sandstones.

Religion

The Naga worship gods and goddesses of the sea, storms, rain, war, and knowledge.

Language

The Naga speak a dialect of Draconic called Aquan Tongue. They have a hard time understanding true Draconic, and speak very broken Common mixed with Aquan Tongue.

Names

The names of the Naga usually involve words that translate into 'Water', 'Ruins', or the such, as well as the words for gemstones in their names, or names of ancient civilizations that Naga have discovered.
