Mimikyu (5e Race)

Mimikyu

"Seeeeee meee?!"
—Totem Mimikyu

Physical Description

A Mimikyu Source

Mimikyus are a tiny, mysterious race that wear a full body disguise from the moment they are born until the day they die. The only part of their body that is ever exposed are their strange, thin arms that end in three points that seem to act as fingers. Their disguise looks like a childish rendition of a Pikachu, complete with a crooked, wooded tail sticking out of the back. Two slits on the costume's torso allow for this creature to see, meaning that, presumably, the costume is twice as tall as the creature inside it is.

Because Mimikyus spend their entire lives underneath their costume, and the fact that they seem to leave no corpse behind when (or if) they die, save for their costume, almost no one has seen what they look like. Not only that, but every instance of someone peeking underneath their outfit has resulted in severe sickness with no memory of what they saw or even death from fright.

For some strange reason, some Mimikyu, though rare, use a blackish colored disguise instead of a normal yellowish colored one. It is still unknown why this is the case.

History

Mimikyus were first discovered on the tropical islands of Alola. Despite how terrifying this pokemon is said to be and how feared it is, it is said that a very powerful specimen that resided in an abandoned department store was tamed and befriended by a little girl.

Society

Lonely by nature, Mimikyus have no society to speak of. Some have argued that the reason they disguise themselves as Pikachus is to earn the trust of other creatures and their friendship. Others, mostly those who fear the small creature, theorize that it wears it to either fool unsuspecting victims or because it cannot be exposed to sunlight, lest it die. However, these theories are unconfirmed.

Mimikyu Names

Mimikyu names are usually Abyssal, but some have been known to have Sylvan or Common names.

Mimikyu Traits

Design Note: See Tiny Player Characters (5e Variant Rule).

A small, mysterious creature both loved for its short stature and childishly crafted disguise and feared because no one knows what's actually underneath said disguise.
Ability Score Increase. Your Wisdom score increases by 1 and your Charisma score increases by 2.
Age. Because no one has ever found a mimikyu's corpse, it is believed that they are immortal.
Alignment. Despite being feared, most mimikyus are good.
Size. Mimikyus usually stand at 8 inches tall, but some have been found to be as big as 2 feet. Your size is Tiny.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 25 feet.
Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Aberrant Fey. Your creature type is considered to be both aberration and fey.
Disguise. You are proficient with Disguise Kit.
Shadow Claw. Your pointy "fingers" are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal slashing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.
Nightmare. You take an action to remove your costume in an attempt to impose fear on all creatures within 30 feet of you, who must all make Wisdom saving throws. The DC for this saving throw equals 8 + your Charisma modifier + your proficiency bonus. Creatures who failed the save are frightened. A frightened creature may continue to make Wisdom saving throws at the beginning of its turns until it succeeds. If a creature's saving throw is successful, you don your costume or the effect otherwise ends for it, the creature is immune to being frightened in this manner for the next 24 hours.
Shadow Skin. If you are out of your costume and start your turn in direct sunlight, you take radiant damage equal to your level. Any shade blocking your face prevents this damage. You also have disadvantage on attack rolls and Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight when you, the target of your attack, or whatever you are trying to perceive is in direct sunlight.
Fey Ancestry. You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed and magic can’t put you to sleep.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common, Sylvan and Deep Speech.

gollark: There is a simple solution. Dynamically reprogrammable statues.
gollark: Java is popular, so there is much good software written in it. However, I think it's a flawed language in various ways.
gollark: `apiomemetics` as currently implemented is !!NOT!! competing.
gollark: I see.
gollark: I remember how perfectly fine the power grid was with the 40000 bots in the air at one time, yes.
