Metinis (3.5e Race)

Metinis

Personality

Metinis are inclined towards the stoic and silent more than the open and inviting. They rarely talk to those outside their own race, but when they do, they are not often talkative. They stick to the bare essentials in conversation, if they do not know who they are talking to well.

Physical Description

Metinis are physically imposing. They are, of course, creatures made of metal, and are thus difficult to harm. They can, at first glance, seem physically imposing, but in reality they are no more war-torn or quick to brawl as any other race. They are, quite simply put, better at it. They stand 7-8 feet tall, and do not dress normally, maybe having a hood to hide their face at best. They are extremely heavy for their size, anywhere between 6,000 and 8,000 pounds. They lack genitalia, and can reproduce by placing their hand on a 5/5/5 foot block of metal of any type, and sending their energy into it. This creates a new Metinis. New Metinis appear fully grown. A Metinis may only go through this process once per lifetime, and after doing so has a limited lifespan, which still dwarfs the human span at 150 years.

Relations

As mentioned before, the Metinis are not normally open to members of other races, and learn from early on to be distrustful of the flesh-and-bloods that live around their small pockets of Metinis civilization. They do not fear them, and if they grow to know them well they feel no specific ill-will towards them, but they will avoid them, if it does not suit their purpose.

Alignment

The Metinis tend towards the neutral alignments, as they feel like outsiders in any struggle, be it good against evil or lawful against chaotic.

Lands

The Metinis often have set tribes in specific areas or in cities, keeping to themselves as much as possible. Some are nomadic, forever seeking the lost lands of their home.

Religion

Metinis are not inclined towards religion. As they have always felt like outsiders, it is rare that a religion of outsiders becomes popular among them. As they are not inclined towards magic in the slightest, they seldom become clerics.

Language

Metinis speak Common, and as a Racial language know Dwarven. They instinctively get along with dwarves due to this common language and joint heritage, even if neither of them knows this.

Names

Metinis often have strange names, based off of the words for metal in other languages. Rarely, however, do they have names that are directly common, but often dwarven words for gold, iron, mithril, steel, copper, bronze, and other metals are used.

Racial Traits

  • +2 Str, -4 Dex. As creatures of metal, Metinis move more slowly.
  • Living Construct, Metinis
  • As Large creatures, Metinis take the normal penalties due to large size.
  • Base land speed of 20 feet, as being made of metal, they find it more difficult to move quickly.
  • Metal Body (Ex): As a creature made of metal, Metinis do not need to eat or drink regular food or water to survive. Rather, they subsist on metal, about ten pounds a week. They prefer unprocessed metal, though processed metal does not harm them. They do not need to breath. They can still drown, however.
  • Made of Iron (Ex): Metinis have a natural armor bonus of +8. However, due to this Metinis have a natural spell failure chance of 35% and an armor check penalty of -6, as well as a max Dex bonus of +1. This bonus doesn't stack with the bonus granted by armors with bonuses less than or equal to eight, though it does stack with natural armor bonuses.
  • Automatic Languages: Common, Dwarven.
  • Favored Class: Fighter.
  • Level Adjustment: +2

gollark: Doesn't that mean that more activity causes more blood flow, not that somehow blood flow causes activity in brain areas?
gollark: I mean, consider: brain viruses.
