Marked by the Outsider (5e Background)

Marked by the Outsider

Sometime in your past, you were at your lowest of lows. You were at the end of your rope, but then a figure from beyond came to you. Either in your sleep or in what you wished was a dream, someone came to you from the void itself to give you a "gift". The Outsider. He became interested in you and decided to give you his mark, which some say has a terrible price attached to it. To this very day it still burns on your hand. But why you? What exactly does the outsider have in store for you? And just what price might you end up paying?

Skill Proficiencies: Arcana and Intimidation

Tool Proficiencies: Navigation tools

Equipment: A set of common clothes, an oil lamp, a tattered blanket, a pouch with 10 gold, and a prized heirloom of yours.

Feature: Mark of the Outsider

You have been branded with the Mark of the Outsider, which has connected you to the void and, in turn, the Outsider. When sleeping or at a shrine to the Outsider, he may contact you and tell you a piece of information. The information is decided by the DM and could be anything such as a name, location, or even a cryptic message.

Alternate: Friend of the Rodents

Due to the mark on your hand, rats and their kin are particularly comfortable around you. Rats and any other rodents will not flee from you, so long as you do not harm them. They may offer you scraps of food or simply trust your presence.

gollark: I would offer a reassuring statement of some kind like nevin did, but I'm bad at those.
gollark: > or the importance of geological deposits on politicsIs there much to this beyond the general thing of useful resources affecting politics?
gollark: You *can* still discuss geology, if you want to, you don't need a dedicated channel. It might be nice, but it's not necessary.
gollark: It's entirely irrelevant to my life, so I'll probably forget about even that in about 5 minutes.
