Man Eater Tomato (4e Creature)

A man-eating monster inspired by Attack of the Killer Tomatoes.

Man Eater Tomato

Roughly anywhere from 1 to 3 feet tall, these horrid man-eating fruits are the fruit of man eater plants. Their insides are larger than their outsides due to magic and they can devour a full-grown man and leave no remains left. They have a pair of humanoid eyes and a large gaping mouth filled with a row of razor-sharp shark-like teeth. They can either levitate roughly a foot off the ground or bounce about in order to pursue prey. They also are known to consume the nightshade plants that grow with them in order to coat their teeth in a deadly venom from the plants.

Man Eater Tomato Tactics

Man Eater Tomatoes are not as intelligent as one would first think despite their quasi-humanoid appearance. Most merely chase their prey in a charge, paying no attention to their own safety, and as such are often the victims of traps and opportunity attacks from skilled adventurers. Perhaps part of the reason that they do not show signs of self-preservation is the fact that they will explode when killed outside of wilting or rotting away, sending forth a harmful shock wave mixed with red-hot tomato guts everywhere around them.

Man Eater Tomato Lore

A character knows the following information with a successful Nature check.

DC 10: Man Eater Tomatoes grow on the vines of Man Eater Plants. When they are ripe, they detach themselves from the vine and begin to search for prey. Man Eater Tomatoes, when their monstrous innards are removed, can be used in foods just like normal tomatoes can.

DC 15: Man Eater Tomatoes, despite their name, do not only eat human creatures, and are known to prey off of other creatures as well. They devour their victims in order to drain the blood from their bodies; if they cannot feed within three days, they will wilt and die.
