This cartridge holds up to 50 magic missiles (individual missiles, not charges of several). Each shot of the cannon launches 1, 3, or 5 of these missiles from the cartridge at foes. Any character who can cast Magic Missile (even from a wand with the UMD skill) can load x amount of missiles into the cartridge as a full-round action, with x being the number of missiles they can normally cast from the spell/wand/scroll. It is not uncommon for there to be spare (loaded) cartridges near Magic Missile Cannons, if they can be afforded.
