Leprechaun (5e Race)

Leprechaun

What do I look like, me lad? See the hat? The buckles on me shoes? Why, I'm a Leprechaun!

Physical Description

Leprechaun are odd fey which are known for their short sizes. However, in truth, there are two kinds of leprechaun, with one that can be as tall as seven feet. The typical shorties that people have grown to know and love as the traditional leprechaun are called charmers. They are the height and stature of dwarves, if a bit less stocky. Their hair is usually a bright red, rimming in beards around their ruddy, light-skinned faces with blue eyes. They typically have pudgy noses, nimble fingers, and slightly pointed ears. Charmer leprechaun have no female members of their subrace, unlike their aran cousins.

Their counterpart, the aran leprechaun, is totally bizarre. They are tall, much more than the average human. They share the same color of red hair as the smaller leprechaun, but they grow them in long, wavy beards, unlike the close cropped one the short ones prefer. These tall leprechaun also have green skin, magenta eyes, and sharp teeth. While the charmers prefer either blue or green clothes, a hat, and shoes with buckles, the aran dress much more loosely in fashion, often taking a liking to casual human garb.

History

The leprechaun are native to the Feywild, but in different parts. The aran leprechaun are known to be more spiritual and attuned to nature. They were known to live in the more mountainous and harsher parts of the Feywilds, where they held festivals and partied with other rowdy fey. Some call them the barbarian leprechauns, duller and not as witty. However, they are known to be kind to strangers. Charmers live in more controlled environments where weather is fair, and pixies and fairies live. They are the traditional shoemakers of the fairy community, and are known for their tricks. Perhaps the most famous trick is how they often travel to the Material Plane to fool with humans. Humans love to hunt charmers, believing they hide pots of gold at the end of rainbows. Whether this is verified is unsure, but that doesn't stop anyone from looking. It is rumored that leprechauns are usually born when an evil spirit mates with a degenerate fairy. Thus they are neither good nor evil.

Society

Aran leprechauns live in large communities, usually, and are very familial and tight knit. They enjoy revelry and parties. Their villages are usually based in higher altitude woodlands or mystical forests where they walk among the giant trees. In the wild, they do not wear too much clothing, sometimes preferring to just have some leaves. They have some derisive feeling for their smaller cousins, calling them skittish. Arans are known to move rather slowly and prefer taking in the views. They are much rarer than charmers.

Charmer leprechauns live in smaller groups, with usually a maximum of four members, one for each leaf on a four-leaf clover. Their relationships in these group are very business-like, but also precarious. They usually suspect one another of cheating the other of money. In these entourages, they make business selling shoes to other fey. Sometimes, solitary leprechaun go to mess with humans. Many times they do so with no gold and, when they are caught, are sometimes skinned alive. As such, they are a bit wary of dangerous humans. They are said to also grant wishes upin being caught, in exchange for their release. But, like genies, they are very tricky when it comes to granting anything.

Personality

People know the charmers to be very witty and cocky. They flaunt their bait before danger's nose often, hoping to elicit a rise out of the human. Other times, they are merry, singing songs and whistling tunes as they made a living constructing tiny shoes. They often lie or tell half-truths, adding to the mystical whimsy surrounding them. Aran are more straightforward and to the point. They have been described to be like hipsters by those who have met them because of their laid back demeanor and slow speech. Unlike the charmers, aran favor a simple lifestyle of happiness over money.

gollark: The various data processing and storage facilities are networked via a combination of RFC 1149 (upgraded with high-density flash chips in place of duct-taped paper) and trans-crustal neutrino beams.
gollark: Long-term data storage is achieved by beaming all data into space as frequency-modulated X-rays, since if FTL travel or something is ever developed they can just be picked up later™.

gollark: Yes, we actually have a system where all our data is fed in an entirely unstructured way into a somewhat slow-running trillion-node neural network.
