Lekgolo

"We have total domination.”

-Colony

Physical Description

A Mgalekgolo wielding an assault cannon.

The Lekgolo are small eels roughly 4 feet in length and 3 inches in girth. They exude a translucent slime, and their smooth skin takes shades of orange and brown. They have no central nervous system or traditional innards. When in direct contact with other individual Lekgolo, the pheromones in their slime forms an intelligence which becomes more advanced with size. Colonies can stretch for an indefinite distance, though in order to form a consciousness equal to a humanoid race, a colony must be around 12 feet tall. They can be categorized into 2 sub-species, Mgalekolo and Sbaolekgolo.

History

The Lekgolo maintained a primal lifestyle on their home world of Te, where they survived by burrowing through the ground. When the Covenant discovered the planet, and the Forerunner stations spread across it, they immediately sent search parties. The San’Shyuum, having learned of the destruction of numerous Forerunner artifacts, declared war on the Lekgolo in a war that would later be known as the Taming of the Lekgolo. As the name implies, the Covenant won in an overwhelming victory, though the Lekgolo won most ground engagements. Any colonies found to have destroyed Forerunner artifacts were annihilated, while those who did not were accepted into the Covenant. Though they stayed loyal throughout multiple wars, when the Great Schism occurred, the vast majority of Lekgolo sided with the separatists rather than the Covenant, revealing a deeply held grudge.

Society

Due to their hive mind, conflict among Lekgolo is rare, if not unheard of. Before the Covenant, Lekgolo societies had not advanced far enough to create even basic armor, though language had been created. In Covenant strike groups, Lekgolo act in pairs known as “bond brothers”. They are shown to highly value camaraderie, falling into a directed rage should their bond brother fall.

Lekgolo Names

Lekgolo colonies are given three part names that denote their origin. Beyond the scope of other Lekgolo, they are often referred to by names of groups.

Names: Ogada Nosa Fasu, Igido Nosa Hurru, Colony, Cacophony, Junta
